"Donut Dollies", Binh Phuoc, Vietnam February 1969

It has been quite a while since I have posted anything on this site. Saul messaged me about that, so here is my latest diorama. I will be doing something a bit different this time. Since the diorama is already completed, I will start with the completed build and then go backwards showing the in-progress work.

This diorama depicts one of the many visits American Red Cross volunteers, commonly known as "Donut Dollies", made to the Binh Phuoc basecamp. This visit took place at the motor pool in February of 1969. The Scout Platoon from HHC and C Company from 2d Battalion, 47th Infantry (Mechanized), 9th Infantry Division were on standdown between operations changing into clean uniforms and pulling maintenance on their tracks when a team of Donut Dollies arrived to facilitate a recreational program consisting of a game locating various states, naming the state capitol, and giving an interesting fact about the state before engaging in a sing along. Two of the Donut Dollies were Sherry Cozzalio who is facilitating the game and Emily Strange seated near her guitar. I wasn't able to get the name of the other lady.

The figures are conversions of figures from Bravo 6, DEF Models, H3 Models, Royal Models, Masterbox, and a figure I sculpted for Custom Dioramics with heads from Hornet, Mantis Miniatures, Royal Models, and Life Miniatures. The conex facade is from the Gecko conex container kit. The steel matting is from ICM. The crates and drums are from Armand Bayardi.

Here are some photos. Some may seem redundant, but their is a difference in focus. Half of the photos, mainly the detail ones, were not able to be processed by the site's server because the file was too large.

When I have time I will post the in-progress photos.

This was a fun diorama to build and I hope it was enjoyable to view.

Thanks for looking.
Cheers,
James
