I'd never noticed a plexiglass nose on any before, was for that some sort of optical system?

My first pilot, WO Tom Olsson. He was flying 827 when it was shot down. He retired from the Army and now lives in Seattle.

One of my favorite shots.

This ship 67-15667 lost a tail rotor in flight and the main rotor after mast bumping. Both pilots killed.

67-15825 "Warlord", getting the main rotor tracked. Later it had an engine failure an autorotated into a bomb crater.

67-15827 My first ship. It was shot down near Tay Nin. It autorotated into a rice paddy an folded up the skids. Pilots ok.

67-15546 This cobra is in a museum in Arkansas although upgraded to an AH-1S/F. The crashed cobra on the previous post, 040" Kentucky Woman" is at a VFW post in Stateside, NC.

The cobra with the black tail is my ship 567 at Vung Tao, for an in country modification to change the tail rotor to the rt side of the fin. It changed the sound a of a cobra in flight. We didn't have any optical systems back then except for the gun sights. Just look out the window. On the early cobras, that was to be for a landing light. It was later change to go under the nose. I guess they just used up the rest of the stock. Also the tail rotor was on the left side of the fine and later changed to the right side. The canopies had a blue tint to them. Air conditioning was also added later too. It ran off of the bleed air from the turbine engine. Gary S. XXXXV XX XX

Great Stuff....Loving These!! You captions really add to the context of what your showing us.
It's interesting that as I look at the ones opened up how simple they look compared to the technology packed Whiskeys and Zulus of today.
Keep them coming!
:victory:

As the first attack helicopter it was simple compared to these flying computers of today. I think it was the most elegant of choppers and fun to drive.

No, Rosemary's Baby' tail number is 68-15126, Wretched Mildred's was 68-15189. Yup that us. Nice web site too. My biggest beef with them is that they didn't allow crew chiefs to join. We were the guys that kept them from falling out of the sky. Try this site for more on Centaurs.
http://centaursinvietnam.org/index.html Thanks, Gary S. XXXXV XX XX PS The picture of me was 35 lbs. heavier.

Those early cobras are just slick looking rides, I like them more than the late model ones.

Gary,
Thank you for the pictures.
I FEEL a few more Cobras moving to the top of the build pile.
Can I use your pictures as references?
I would like to do a few of these birds.
Frank

Hi Frank, Yes !!! Please use these pics for reference. That's why I posted them. I have a set of teeth (3/4 Cav. style), in 1/72nd scale if you want them. Just PM my your address and I'll send them. And to you also THANKS for your service. Gary S. XXXXV XX XX

I always did like the look of the early Cobras. I grew up on Ft. Knox and would see these flying around alot. Too me, they have a little bit different sound than a UH-1. I could tell the difference and yep, I'd be right.
