"CONTACT!" 9th Infantry Division, Long An Province, Vietnam 1967

JamesOLeary

Master at Arms
This is a figure of a Soldier from the 9th Infantry Division returning fire while patrolling canals in Long An Province in 1967. The figure is a cut down conversion of a figure from H3 Models. I added a short brimmed ERDL Camo boonie hat to the figure after I cut him in half to replicate him being in the water using the canal banks as cover. The water was made using Magic Sculpt Putty which was painted and then several layers of gloss varnish were applied. The banks were created with Magic Sculpt with vegetation from Dioramapresepe. I wanted to show that the guy was firing his weapon, so there are shell casings in the air by gluing parts of them to the plant extending into the canal. Since the canals flooded often, there usually was very little undergrowth along the banks.

Thanks for looking.

What a neat idea, I see the shell coming out of the ejector port. Well done James! :tens:
Thanks. I wanted to give the impression that this guy was laying down some fire. Since the ejection port was open, I placed the first shell casing to look like it was just ejecting, then the others were still in the air since he was on full auto.

I like your muddy water effect along with the figure that certainly shows action!
Thanks. I wasn't too sure how the water was going to turn out. Since I had used a wargaming resin riverbed in the past with decent results, I figured I would try forming the shape of the water on my own and just paint it and varnish it with gloss varnish to get the effect of muddy water rather than trying to use the various water products that I have and possibly ruining the scene. Luckily this turned out well.
