Bust of 9th Infantry Division Staff Officer

JamesOLeary

Master at Arms
I am converting the bust of LTC Kilgore from Apocalypse Now into a Staff Officer from the 9th Infantry Division from when the Division Headquarters arrived in Vietnam in December 1966.

The additions I made were the addition of strips for Airborne wings and a CIB above his name tape, a 9th ID patch on his left shoulder, and a 7th ID patch on his right shoulder indicating service in that division during the Korean War. Since the flap area near the collar is indicative of the 2d pattern of the Tropical Combat Uniform, I also added the epaulets that were part of that version.

Like the bust of the Scout, QuickGen paints were applied over the primer and Ultra Matte Varnish.

Then I painted the face and applied the initial coat of the base color for the shirt.

Then I started to shade and highlight the front of the uniform along with the left sleeve. Color shoulder patches were worn when the Division came ashore at Vung Tau, so I painted them. This guy is going to be quite colorful.
