Aotake/Aodake?

Hi folks,

wondering what recipe others have used for this colour?

I recently read that a good way to reproduce it is to spray the area silver, then cover with a coat of clear blue mixed with some clear yellow.

anyone else have ideas? I tried a bit of mixing paints but the colour came out way to dark. I haven't tried the method I mentioned above yet.

I did it with an aluminum base (Tamiya) and then misted clear thinned blue over it so it wasnt too uniform. Never tried the yellow. Maybe a bit of green.

Maybe this link is of interest

Warren, it seems that Aotake began as a metallic clear blue color, but would turn green as it weathered. My Tamiya zero calls for metallic blue and clear green mixed. Of course if you don't want to mix up paint White Ensign Models also makes an enamel of it. All of my Hasegawa kits say to use Gunze Metallic Blue Green Lacquer. Not much help I know but so far that is all I've dug up.

Thanks guys! Those suggestions really help! I had no idea someone had a pre-mixed colour.

James, this was the link i was looking at earlier.

I think I'm going to take a trip to the LHS and see if they carry the pre-made stuff. If not, I might pick up a bottle of clear yellow and give the mixing a try!

Thank you again for the help all!
