Another Spit

This flew into my local field today and i thought it worth a mention. Its a Spitfire MkI !! I think there are 3 flying in the world now as 2 were restored to flying in the last year. 70 years ago it skidded to a halt on a French beach and the tide came in before it could be rescued. I'm always amazed how small and docile MkI's are compared with the MkIX's and above we usually see in the UK these days.

needless to say it had the obligatory merlin engined 109 in tow...

Sorry about the picture quality but it was into the Sun

Another good day at the local field today. Crap for pictures as the wind was wrong so aircraft landing behind hangers and pictures into the sun as well. First picture shows a mustang and the limited view i had and so most pics are greatly enlarged and cropped so quality is poor. worth a mention though...just:)

There was another hurricane but the pictures were poor as well as another Spit, again not worth printing. Last day of summer here so that's about it for another year ..

Its one of the few private fields in the South of the country with a hard runway. Its right on the coast so its used as a base for the many Seafront shows during the Summer. aircraft fly in from all over the UK for the weekends to do displays in the area. Most larger coastal towns have a display along the beach during the summer down here but very few have a airfield. Its also the oldest licensed airport in the country with art-Deco 1930s terminal

From a photography point of view its good as it has great scenery all round if you want to get arty

Disadvantage is by midday you are shooting into the sun as here today at 14.00 hrs. I really struggle to get good pictures there.

Normally my photography would be of a lot higher standard like this Guy who was there with his sqn of tame geese :) he flies with !!

Dont get me started on photography.........lol (y)

That's so cool! You may struggle with the sun shots but you do it well. that's really a very nice shot of the spit in the sun. (y)

Yeah we all know how digital has destroyed the art... :gogo

I also love the shot of the Spitfire in the sun. Nice PBY also, but they sure look odd without a nose turret.

Too much man-ass in that one shot but I can forgive you. The ladies may say not enough!

I was going to make a joke about his ass "pulling the birds" but it may not translate to American as i think "Birds" is English slang

To be honest Paddy I would not mind that picture of the Spitfire as a poster. Maybe with a slight bit more propmotion though. I dont think its its a bad picture because it highlights the silhoute so nicely.

Thanks for sharing your pictures here as pictures are at this moment the closest I can come to seeing the real thing.

Tell you what Dave, that picture would be a massive fail to most because the shutter speed was to fast so the prop is frozen. Look at the PBY pics, on the ground the shutter speed is slow so the prop blurs, in the air its too fast so the prop is frozen, that's the sign of someone cheating and using auto settings :eek:hmy: , something i should know better about :)
Thanks though all the same.
