Another one for Rhino

Whitehorse only had the one smokestack, I wonder which boat this one is? It amazes me that these men piloted their stout, little boats up such narrow rapids.

Well now, THAT is thought provoking! 120' X 24' beam. Hmm.....
2.057 inches length overall...... Hmm.
.0411 inch beam. Hmm.
Smaller than 1/700 SS Whitehorse by a bit. Hmm.
Is there a broadside profile picture of the old Clifford Sifton, oh renter-of-space-in-head?

A 1/350 project would make sense. 4.10 inches long X .8 inch beam would be manageable for a boat this size. :bm:
Based on SS Whitehorse sales data, such a kit would seem less than popular.

We know that every (1) Sternwheeler model kit begins with a plausible paddlewheel. SS Whitehorse' 1/700 paddlewheel hub measure .3 inches.
SS Clifford Sifton lacks any deck plan drawing, but it follows that a 1/350 paddlewheel might be twice the size of the 1/700 unit. This hub is a hair under .6 inches.
The lack of accurate line drawings is both freeing and daunting. The time and material it takes to build a 1/350 scale kit might be better spent on a better documented vessel.
Still, everyone know how I DO enjoy the obscure. I did start a 1/350 canoe Master.

My version is a bit studier than the actual unit, but we'll see how it goes. I'm NOT committing to this Master. I'm merely trying to find out what may be possible. RTV pours 0500 hrs. tomorrow.

Thanks for looking in!

Thanks Guys.
As fond as I am of the Yukon gold rush "fire canoes", I am starting no new model ship projects at this time.

I was cleaning, sorting and marking just a smattering of 10+ years of RTV molds in an effort to bring some overdue order to the "Nut Department" tonight when the folly of many of my time-intensive efforts became glaringly apparent. Perhaps the picture for the final blog post will be all of the molds laid out by scale and subject.

This is a financial decision. The annual expense of the website doesn't justify the costs any further. My hobby is my hobby, but the unreasonable expectation that the website would at very least pay it's own bills and pay for materials has come home since my semi-retirement, cardiac procedure and part-time employment. I wonder if the very expensive GoDaddy web platform just sucks, or perhaps since my subjects are so esoteric, I am reaching a marketplace, possibly, devoid of customers.

The next few months will be devoted to finishing up started projects, and preparing to close the tlarmodel.com website.
In-stock TLAR Models kits will be discontinued. Kits with completed LPP castings will be packaged for sale.
Completed new kits will be produced in modest, limited numbers and all the time and effort I put into colorful box art will be put to use in other activities.

I'm considering a return to eBay with kamikaze-style auction pricing and see how much my vast kit collection can be pared down.

The members of Sea N' Sky will continue to honor central Iowa veterans with the presentation of built kits of their vessels, aircraft and vehicles pens and fun crotched articles. I will continue to lobby for production of a few of these comfy-looking, provocative, neck pillows.

Now, some molding and casting will continue into next year. If you wish for LPP copies of model parts, I will still be doing model favors for a little while yet.
I appreciate your encouragements, Men! I had this cool dream of increasing US Coast Guard mission awareness and interest by producing model kits of their cutters, boats, and aircraft. I realize the commonplace "Bread and Butter" model kits will continue to dominate our model marketplace, just as they always have.
