Alclad 2

Sprue Bros kick a$$- I ordered on Wed, paid with PayPal and using their regular shipping have my three jars in my sweaty little hands on Friday! Lets make it a great weekend. lol

I have already applied my first coat of transparent blue- i see what you guys are talking about when you say 'pooling' hopefully I can buff a little of that out- If this works right, this is going to be amazing.

I know this will sound crazy, but a very accomplished and published modeler put on an Alclad demonstration for our club a couple years ago. He uses 5-10 psi to shoot very light coats on his parts, you could barely hear the spray, but his stuff is sensational! He uses his Optivisor so he can see when the chrome color starts to show, this is especially important with the chrome, because there's a fine line between shiny and looking like silver paint. The low air pressure should eliminate the pooling and give you more control. Here's video on his work.

I was doing fine until I tried to speed it up- I opened the needle to almost full spray. Thats when the pooling occurred. For the curious I'm using a Paache H, I havn't bought a cup yet, I'm using the bottles because this is my first time using an airbrush. newbie, lol.

It wouldn't matter Moon, all I have shot is blue. the detail is near impossible to see in decent light! I'll post some stuff soon -as in before Monday when I have a clearer view myself. All I can say is that transparent blue is fantastic paint...so far I have used 1/2 of the 1 oz bottle trying to cover, i may still use 1/2 of that to finish. I'll shoot some alum. as a backing, that should help even the color as seen from the outside (dont forget I'm spraying the inside of the disk now). CR

Ok This is my third coat- hope I have enough paint to finish!

This^^^ is the inside of the disk, the painted surface. The pooling is obvious and embarrassing, but those 'teardrop' areas will be primed and painted with the Alclad alum. to day or tomorrow.

And here^^^ is the outside with NO flash, the contact paper gave me pure hell trying to get it on straight-all the wrinkling issues will be addressed when the 'teardrops' are prepped for painting. This clearly shows where my paint coverage is lacking. That transparent blue flows like ink and it dries almost instantly! I really like this paint. Tried it on a small flat piece of clear and it tinted perfect in two quick swipes.

Top again^^^ this time with the flash-lol- I wish I could adjust that flash as this shows the true color of the paint.

Thought i'de toss this up to keep Moon happy! lol. Thanks for the help guys- hopefully I'll have the bottom half done this weekend. CR

look at this- see the edges of the painted areas? This is Alclad transparent blue at full strength, can I dilute this into a tint? I'm gonna try, but that would use all i have- I'll have to order some more, but I'll still need to get some more Aluminum for the top.

:popcorn I'm sure it will come out nice in the end, difficult to paint from the inside, i have painted some bodys for rc-cars and it was tricky to get everything in the right order (and avoid spraydust).
Looking forward to your next update (y)

Thanks- this is painted on the inside^, and it turned out nice, I'm gonna test the idea on a piece of clear and see if I can get a true tint like a window tint. I HATE that awfull Tamiya tint.
