9th Infantry Division M79 Grenadier, Vietnam 1967

JamesOLeary

Master at Arms
I built this figure right before I left for Iraq the first time and never finished the base for it. In the process of getting ready for a model show in Austin, Texas, I saw this figure and decided to finish what I had started those years ago. The figure is almost a stock Hobby Fan figure from the Fire Team set. The only thing that I changed was the head from the cartoonish Hobby Fan head to a Hornet head. This is the second figure that I have ever used oils on. This scene depicts an M79 Grenadier from the 9th Infantry Division who is a member of a platoon that is pinned down by Viet Cong machine gun fire coming from a treeline. He has already taken off his Claymore bag of extra 40mm rounds to make them more accessible because he figures he'll be pinned down for a while before the artillery and air strikes come in. He is lobbing high explosive 40mm rounds where he sees muzzle flashes in the treeline. He has already fired 4 rounds and is firing his fifth. He has raised his body slightly to aim at the muzzleflashes, but is careful enough to try to stay as low as possible to prevent from getting hit. His 6th lays ready to use on the Claymore bag.
The groundwork is Miliput textured with an old toothbrush. Woodland Scenics field grass was used for the tallish grass. Hudson and Allen ivy leaves were used for the leave litter. The expended rounds are brass rod cut to length and the live round is from Dragon's Marine Recon kit.

Another nice work and lot of pictures, very good! Perhaps the base is too small, you should try bigger and rectangular one.
