I wanted to show off a build I just completed. This is the 1/35 Takom Leopard C2. I spent a lot of time travelling for work last year and decided to pick up a kit that I could assemble while I was stuck in various hotel rooms, just to give me something to do. I settled on a tank figuring I could complete the assembly and not have to worry about painting the kit. I have also been looking to do a straight out of the box build that I could attempt to enter in some local shows. I finally took the time to get this finished up.
Over all this kit isn’t too bad. You have the option of building either a German Leopard 1A5 or an Canadian Leopard C2. Visually the differences seem to mostly be the turret. This kit does not have nearly the count parts as most modern day armor kits, but is still well detailed. There are a number of places where the instructions are just weird and very difficult to understand the orientation of the parts. Fortunately there is a really thorough walk around of this tank on Prime Portal which helped tremendously. The individual tracks in the kit are produced by Oroachi and are pretty nice. They consist of a plastic link, a plastic track guide horn and vinyl poly caps for the end connectors. They were very easy to assemble and are very sturdy, and really work, without any cement. These tracks are available as aftermarket items as well. I unfortunately broke several of the smaller details trying to get the parts of the sprues, but they are not noticeably missing on the end result. Another weird part of the kit is the side skirts. They are one piece that wrap around to the front but the point where the seam along the front is, is not a natural one and required some clean up. It was just a weird bit of engineering. Nothing I couldn’t overcome.
The tank was painted with Tamiya paints, XF-68 NATO Green and XF-55 Field Gray mixed 1:1. Finishing consisted of a MIG filters and AK Wash for NATO vehicles.
Here are the pictures:
In the end, this was a pretty fun build and for me it was a bit old school. Its been a while since I built something that had no aftermarket and I didn’t do a WIP thread on. Hope you guys like it!
Thanks for looking
