Another TRIP IN AUSTRALIA -Tasmania July/ August 2025 Part 3

Thanks for sharing. Had the pleasure of visiting Perth and Hobart during a port call in March '97. Spent many evenings chilling at Joe's Garage (bar) in Hobart. Motorsport paraphernalia all over the walls...including some bumper/nose clips from some V8 Supercars. Still remember the Joe's shuttle doing a donut in the middle of the intersection and laying stripes down the road hauling a load of enlisted back to the pier that had to be back onboard before midnight.

Most lasting impression was the architecture in Perth. I keep threatening to go back for 3-4 weeks...likely timed around the Bathurst 1000 and Gold Coast race weekends. One of these years.....

Sounds like a blast....we just had Bathurst last weekend and the final 10 laps around the mountain were a 'nail biter with 2 Camaro's against a lone Mustang that made its way up from 17 positions back to win.
You should come back.....and come across to the East and look me up - we can have you for dinner on the deck looking across at the National park forest.

Part 3
After Georgetown and the lighthouse we headed for Bridport on the North east coast.

A nice easy drive to a small coastal town that allowed us to get to Scottsdale from the North rather than the west through the foothills like last time. We had another roast at the Pub (like last year) which was to die for - the same as on the boat (which was a Scottsdale roast).
Anyway one night there and on to St.Helens on the NE coast via the mountain pass.
Leaving Scottsdale....

ST.HELENS - a beautiful, small fishing town. We always stop for a coffee and a Toastie(toasted cheese and Ham sandwich) at Banjo's. We always have a sunny day when we arrive and sit at the outside tables and enjoy the sun. Tassie has the 2nd lowest rainfall of all the Australian states, even though we are closer to Antartica.
These boats are for Chris.....

We stayed the night at Stieglitz on the pennisula on the opposite side of the bay from St.helens. From there we adventured north to see the Bay of fires, Binalong Bay and the Gardens, then headed south for Bicheno and stayed there the night.
Not a footprint on any of these beaches!



At the end of the road north we stopped at the Gardens where there was a cool farm right on the coast....I could live there.....




and then we arrived at Bicheno for the night, about an hour south of St.Helens.
This is the view from our Hotel room in Bicheno - breakfast on the balcony, same as last year.
** That headland that ends at the sea, in the mid section of the photo above is the northern side of the headland that ends in the sea below - we are now to the south of all of that.

A good nights sleep and on to more adventures to the south.......

Nah. There's vendor in Japan (Fairy Kikaku?) that casts in blue resin. He divides his ships into sections vertically like that. Hulls can be filled and sanded, but the wood decking seam is impossible! Nothing is more irritating than that! His models are unbuildable.

I build all my own models before I sell them to you guys, so they have to be fun and rewarding to make or I don't monkey around with them.

All those fishing boats, got to be some good seafood around! Thanks for sharing Ian!!

Part 3 Time
From Bicheno we headed further south to more beautiful beaches and the Freycinet peninsula.

Coffee and biscuts at the Chain of Lagoons. Morninging tea every day was somewhere great!

Coles bay - spectacular rock formations with Wineglass bay on the other side.

We stayed that night at the Freycinet resort - we were never in any doubt about that and if we were on the right road....

The resort was at the top of the mountain, with cabins and a seperate resaurant with a fantastic view of Coles bay from the main building and the Tasman sea from the cabin deck [looking toward New Zealand].
We stayed in the 3rd cabin from the left.


We were the only ones there.......we were treated like kings with great views.

very cosy cabin for 2 - no kids rule at this resort, which was wonderful........
We checked out the lighthouse and the scenic cliff walk up to it - bloody freezing, very windy. It is the middle of Winter, which I kept forgetting because of the beautiful weather.

2 nights here and back on the road....


The features over the water are Freycinet Penninsula where we stayed last night.
Part 4 Orford and on to Port Arthur and Hobart.......

Man the scenery is gorgeous. Maybe one day i'll be able to go and see it for myself.
