New Tool from Dspiae

Nice one James, being able to drill on center of a rod has always been my weakness...that and making two parts the same. I might grab one also.

Ya, I keep ditching that crap, I never signed up either. I kept x-ing out of it till I got Paypal and also ditched the $1.28 shipping scam. Reminds me of Sqdrn mail order. I saw the rolling jig after my order, will do that later. Now I just need a decent hollow punch jig if it's not an arm and a leg.

Excellent find, James, thanks for the heads up!

The rolling jig is very nice. I think I have about 90% of their tools now. Love the quality.

I have a lot of these tools also - love the quality. I love their grinding drill, super glue post and the plastic hatchet on a turntable. I can't get their line wash pen to work properly though. I will wait to see what you think of this latest one James.

I look at these sorts of things and they seem great however i tend to ask myself, what would i have used it for in my last 3 builds ? thats usually enough for me to wait :) I did this with a micro lathe, really wanted one with all the options it would give me but in truth i dont need one :)

I ended up getting a second hand Unimat lathe, has a lot of the options and after years of fretting over the need for one, I've not used it at all. I love the idea of one but I don't think I'm the guy to make models from sheet metal.

Obviously $48 is not the same a s $1000 but having spent a lifetime with an entire fully equipped machine shop at my disposal it can be frustrating not having that anymore but truth is the machine is only the start..then you need the tools like a car needs gas :) You can buy a cheap milling cutter for £5.00 but a good one will be £50.00 and so it goes on.

I do plan on using the lathe when I get back on the Lee, the axels need to be drilled out for my brass replacement and I didn't cut center on the set I have now.

From the looks of it. its not going to automatically self centre. It will do on the horizontal axis bit you will have to measure the dia of your rod and manually set the height /vertical axis.
TBH i dont like the idea of using aluminium for a mitre bock which will be softer than the steel saw

I got the jig, and a couple of other tools. I have been eyeing the ball vice for a bit. It is taken from a jewelry tool that is way, way more expensive. The only difference on that is the aluminum vice jaws on the top part. The ball is polished steel and it is quite heavy. I wanted the pin vice as it has a pivot bearing at the end which will make drilling by hand a little easier.

I agree with @paddy 's assessment that using the angle cutting slots will be damaged a lot by steel saws and extremely damaged if I use my jewelers saw blades.

The tool i would like is a contraption for holding motorcycle models. especially 1/9 scale.
It would really need to clamp the tyres i think as the variation in the rest of bikes would make anything universal a compromise.
They do make a 1/12 clamp but its awkward and designed for light weight plastic models.
The MFH bikes are over a pound of metal, i thought the current build with the bike upright would be ok but i was warned not to trust the integral stand unless you want to hear that "crash in the night" and thats what i heard last night :)
Ultimately i will have to design and build something for my specific needs i think.
