2025 Plastic Surgeons Meetings and Other Fun!

There was, in fact a Plastic Surgeon meeting on VE-Day. 9 members arrived in Ankeny on a sunny day. We were not among them.
Kevin Nelson showcased his Tamiya 1/35 Panther G as 99% complete. Kevin seems to have bounced back quite nicely!
There were quite a few 1/72 M-60's at this meeting, but i understand they were not recent builds. I do not know if the presenter brought all of his contest awards for all of these, mostly Esci 1/72 armor builds and no pictures have been received by this reporter.
For myself, I don't care to see the awards. It seems quite self-serving to bring them to club Show N' Tell.
I finished the 1/72 Heller Mirage F1C raffle turd Teresa won in Monticello this year, but it hasn't left the house yet. This was the most fun I've ever had with a started/incomplete vintage raffle turd and I have gained a new appreciation for classic Heller airplane models. British Dave's wife, Sareem is originally from Cambodia and recognized the Angkor Wat temple insignia straight away!
My friend Frank is a classic NASCAR enthusiast. His knowledge of "Winged Warriors" and racing legends from the days I used to watch races is quite extensive! He split with IPMS Alexander Lippisch over juvenile contest policies, so I shall "adopt" him.
Frank is Going Racin'! He is making custom HO scale racecar bodies and racing on a local track. They often run 4-wide here!
These bodies fit these chassis!

One of my favorites. Cannonball Run's Laguna Chevelle! I likes me a Superbird as well! You can see Frank's enthusiasm and attention to detail. He even modifies the body mounts and wheel openings for a more authentic HO scale stance.
Teresa says since I am working again, I can go racin' with the rednecks, Ummm.......... NASCAR Grampas too. I chose the 1970 Torino GT I drove while I was in college, and "The Last of the V-8 Interceptors" as my first custom AFX projects. I don't have my chassis yet. I guess I need special gooey, oversized "Jel Claws" back tires too. I wonder if I can get white-letter tires? Hmm...............

Man I remember those little cars. They were zippy! That's a heck of a turn on that track. I had a HO rail crossing with our track layout (hijacked ping ball table) but we had too many Gomez Addams type collisions and ran out of cars.

My former HO layout was a 2 lane affair on a ping-pong table plus a 4X8 sheet of plywood. My little brother Steve had an AFX Camaro that was hard to beat.Man I remember those little cars. They were zippy! That's a heck of a turn on that track. I had a HO rail crossing with our track layout (hijacked ping ball table) but we had too many Gomez Addams type collisions and ran out of cars.
My Donnie Allison #21 Mercury Cyclone was a favorite. We used a CB antenna to put the cars back on the track. I still have most of this stuff.

Mark's award is hand made and articulated, but without lighting.
Joachim has his 1/35 Meng Sov. T-72B-3 kit underway. The Meng tracks are pretty cool! His Tamiya 1/48 Me-262 Schnellbomber is coming right along!
Ross Petra's early production DML 1/35 Tiger I is not a recent build, but a study in changes of equipment and configuration from the 1942 version of the PzKpw VI and her later kittens (?) Cubs, maybe?
D has been building 1/350 scale DKM ship models. The Tamiya Bismarck and Trumpeter Graf Zeppelin. D had his first go at photo-etch parts on his GZ. "I got tired of putting it on" got some laughs. He says Bismarck floats, but The Graf rather rolls over, goes down by the stern and settles on the bottom, not so unlike the actual vessel, as it were.
HMS Audacity made her model meeting debut, of course. Young Curt Young looks on, bemused. 1/700 scale Audacity's ortello was delivered by my impression of Captain Eric "Winkle" Brown, as it were. Francisco (hem) recorded part of it, of course. I could not upload it here for all y'all for view. HMS Audacity's MS-4A RN light grey-green coat has been applied.
I found this vintage X-Acto gem in my Dad's workshop. I lacked the ability to continue Life without taking it home.
Midway is on the DVD player. The new coffee pot is proficiently converting well water and Folger's into model-making fuel. Paint is curing on HMS Audacity.
Day 6 of retirement is going pretty well!
I do not regret, for one second, my decision to leave my former hostile, Twatspangle boss.

Today, we voyaged North.
Up Highway 65 to Colo for the Plastic Surgeons cook-out/potluck. When you turn north from Hiway 330, you pass through Collins (Collitis?) and 8 miles later, you arrive in Colo (Colonoscopy?) at the home of Joachim and Aimee Lotz.
I now know what a braided pork loin looks like. Joachim handled the cooking of the meats and is obviously skilled in this manly culinary art.
The pork and Jamaican Jerk chicken legs were very good! Yahmon! Teresa made Nana beans. I made a cornbread. Francisco and Emily brought St. Louis gooey cake, Nate and Trennis delivered a pan of Sara's cheese potatoes, Joe's buddy Mark came with his Wife Capri. Carlton and Julie Burger brought a yummy chocolate cake. D came with his guardian (?) Kitty and brought a healthy 12-year-old appetite. Zoe made interesting devily eggs.
Food was plentiful and good! Lively conversations were shared in a relaxed setting at the Lotz' home.
Li'l D and I had conversations about model ships. He's into German WWII paper ships, like the H-39. He's at a stage I know I was once at. He builds without paint or decals. In a hurry to play with a new, more complex toy. He thinks TLAR Models should produce a resin, full-hull version. I explained TLAR mold size limitations, and bowed out of D's idea. Very Fire makes one already. D looked over Joe's stash and lost the Jenga game. It was very fun to watch! Joe did give D a 1/720 Italeri USS America kit. D was thrilled!
Was there mischief afoot in Joachim's modeling space? I cain't tell you that. The usual suspects were on hand for such skull-duggery.
In any case we had a fine visit and departed with plenty of leftovers. The braided pork loin was excellent!

In other Surgeon News, Kevin Nelson is building his first model ship. Academy 1/600 Royal Mail Ship Titanic.

The 3D printed Master was icy enough, but we wanted something MORE! I molded this and my Sweetie actually did the clear resin with Pearl White pigment mixed in. Pressure casting revealed a 1/700 waterline model Titanic Iceberg that looks COLD!! There's nothing to assemble so no instructions are...

Kevin is making headway on his Academy 1/600 RMS Titanic kit. Quite Titanical so far, don't you agree?
We fired up the Cricut last night. Teresa cuts them and I weed them. The heart decal for little Jerod's racing machine and club decals for Aimee & Joe.
It isn't enough to cut the dogsnot out of the trees with a chainsaw that poke me while I mow.
They must be DESTROYED! (A German MIGHT SAY!! )
The cedar fire did smell pretty nice.
