man, new forum needed

I have just about finished my first ever diorama and was quite excited about the prospect of taking photographs and posting it on here.

That was untill I went to the dioramas forum where everyone is posting their work.

The quality of everything there is out of this world, the level of painting is so professional. Everyone is using photo etched parts , building their own bases etc etc . I still cannot even paint a figure properly yet. Even a " my first diorama" post the guy had lights . lights!!!!
I am still trying to figure out how to get the chunks of resin off figures so the parts of the body line up.

So posting my first attempt there, would be painfull talk about planting weeds amidst roses.

so any chance of a" novice " or a " not very good at all " forum for us lesser mortals that are just starting out, and just looking for some constructive criticism .

thanks

Drop it in, I had the same misconceptions when I first posted my first build that was to be viewed by the entire world! The only lump you'll get here will be in your throat from the positive praise. Good luck CR

I hear ya, my stuff would go in the "dang that sucks" forum. Please feel free to post what you have and don't be bashful. that's what the forum is here for, not so much showing off how good you are, but learning new stuff and the only way to do that is show what you have. so...

:popcorn

Mate we all started somewhere shove it in and go from there

Ask big Bob L the grandfather of all things dioramas is here and hell answer your questions and help you !

Trouble with figures ? Then the figure forum is there to help just fire away

( when I say big Bob I mean big Bob Letterman and not little Bob who is the moonpuppy Bob,...too many Bobs )

I use as less PE i can... hate the stuff and we all started somewhere, i would like to see someone cranking out a show winner for he's first ever diorama so let's see what you got and i'm sure you will get a lot of good comments and learn new things for your next build :ro:

I agree with Matts I HATE PE and shun it's use whenever I can! But sometimes it can work out just right. I'm hand scratching hinges and they will get shown here- good or not. I can't wait to see what you post.

wow thank you very much for all the encouragement...what a great bunch of people .

I am waiting on my dragon cando figures to arrive (the last I will ever order) once they get here I will
be able to finish it up. In the meantime I am working on my second diorama hopefully I will post pictures of both next weekend.

I finally kicked the smoking habit just over 3 weeks ago , so I need to be doing something with my hands constantly and modeling is the perfect thing. as for those of you who have done it know you get some odd mood swings maybe I shouldn't post anything again when i am feeling blue . One great aspect of this is that for every week I refrain I reward myself , for 3 weeks I ordered 3 windsor and newton series 7 brushes , which should improve things from the 20 for $7.99 pack from wal mart that I am currently using. Four weeks I am going to order a dremel with cutting wheels and sanding disks, which should help with my frustration of working with resin.
Hopefully by 3 months it will be frames, woodland scenics and celluclay . As these verlinden bases and vignettes are not cheap. Still ca c'est la vie.

once again thank you very much for all the encouragement. I am so glad I found this site.

We try to make this site as friendly yet informative as possible. Its all about modeling and enjoying ourselves. Looking forward to seeing the dio and congrats on 3 weeks. Its a tough go, but worth it.

I finally kicked the smoking habit just over 3 weeks ago ,

I quit about 20 years ago...about 6 months after I got married..odd how that worked... :rotf

I wish I was modeling back then, I probably wouldn't have gained that 70+lbs I did. :rotf

I can't imagine paying for smokes nowadays. I'm too cheap today to do it.

Looking forward to your updates. :popcorn

A bit of advice with resin, cut it slowly--- I just got done working some myself and I'm getting better, but it's not something you want to cut quickly. It can wander a bit. Have fun. CR

Shalom.

You shouldn't be so negative about yourself.

A lot of people will be interested in seeing your work esecially the less experienced ones.

Cheers

Keep this famous quote in mind , can't remember who said it , F.D.R. or Moe Howard of the Three Stooges .......

" Oh just shut up and do it " ............. Oh and welcome to MA .........

You can't learn how to do ANYTHING unless you fail first ......
All of us started on the ground floor .......
We're all buds here and we're more of the suggestion type than the critique type .
No one here has their nose so far up their own ass that they can only see themselves .......

Do research , ask D.A.Q.'s [ dumb ass questions ] ..........
If you're that unsure about something [ see above line ] , don't build it first then ask ..........

Good Lord , the only reason I hate Lima Beans is because I tried eating them once ........

Ya see this site and most other model sites are for us geeky modelers , we're in our own little world , in
our own little spaces to relax and create our art , .......... modeling , or if you live where Andy used to live on the other side of the Atlantic where they don't have malls ................ modelling .

So if you want to be a modeler , ....... just do it , get started .............. you may surprise yourself
and enjoy what your doing instead of worring if your doing it right .

I recently posted my first Dio on the Dio thread and got loads of encouragement and idea's despite the whole project running out of control and ending up like a set from Thunderbirds :) what started out as a building with a vehicle outside turned into a small village with 8 vehicles :) Post what you got amd be proud, its not a competition here :)

Just what Cheyenne, Paddy, and the rest of these guys said. No negative waves here. Post
away and welcome aboard. :drinks
