I know I was very stupid (2x) BUT I think this is at the heart of what Terry is getting at. If no one had told me I would have continued on making similar mistakes I would not have been able to grow and learn more. At this moment I am still picking models to try and learn different techniques. Might not come out as nice as previous models but its a learning curve. If no one tells me it is wrong or to try something else I wont progress to become better. If everybody just gives me an "Attaboy" I will believe I am doing it 100% right and for me that is not where I want to go in this hobby. These forums and my mates on Skype is the only way I can show and learn.

One issue about constructive criticism is that it is personal and subjective. We all have different ideas about what is good, bad or indifferent. We also don't know what the other person knows or what the other person wants or is trying to achieve. I have seen some very poor models (only in my opinion) posted here and other places, and I'm sure the person who posted was pleased with his or her work. Maybe they are just beginners, maybe they don't have clue. However, there is no way I'm going to start deconstructing their paint job. (unless they ask specifically).
One of the other forums has a section called something like... "Critique me", or "Critique this".
It is specifically for people who want constructive criticism. They have lots of repetitive warnings in the header about the fact that "This is a thread for criticism. I f you don't want or can't handle comments, then don't put it here"
At least you know where you stand with a thread like that.

Well, I always try to be constructive about details. Sadly, I can't be on all posts and this information may come late but I have no fear in posting it anyway simply because the reader, if they are referring to the thread for their own build, won't repeat the mistake.

I'm not talking about critiquing or criticizing. I'm talking about discussing. I don't think we should be divided into master and student. Have we become so politically correct that we can't to talk to one another? We don't need a special forum to be honest on and surely we can talk about our hobby without turning into arrogant pricks.

When I post a build and ask for comments on any site,I am asking for anything and everything,I mean it,tell it like it is.Now of course I don't want to be mocked,but constructive advice is always good.As a builder who knows his limitations,I know which advice I can or cannot apply,but certainly all advice is appreciated,and I won't be offended by someone pointing stuff out.A good rule of thumb in dealing with people on any level or field would be Commend...counsel...commend,this way your final observation is positive.
For me,it is far worse to post something and be ignored by eveyone except the Mods and a few regulars.

I agree with what has been said here, people should feel free to give constructive advice, especially if someone is looking for it to improve their skills. If worded well, it can be positive and constructive. From what I've seen on this site since joining, it looks like a very good group of people with a wide range of talents who can help each other. And with the security system against the trollers, it is a respectful place to offer advice.
I know that since coming back into modelling 4-5 years ago, I have received some very good advice from a number of members on another site. Perhaps I am fortunate, but in all cases, it was very positive and encouraged me to try some new techniques that I otherwise wouldn't have tried. I know in my case I don't offer a lot of advice myself as i feel i'm still learning the ropes in a lot of instances. But i do watch a lot of others techniques and try to work at least one thing into each new build.
Just my 2 cents.
