First Blood 8 Rad

Was finally able to track this down...(got a touch of the OCD)...but still no fenders...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Voyager-model-1-35-PE35193-WWII-German-Sd-Kfz-232-8-ROD-early-version-For-TAMIY-/220998452007#ht_1818wt_1086

Shouldn't be to hard to scratch build out of sheet brass though...

Think I got enough PE at this point Tom, thanks. Are the Fenders that bad or just the idea of not having brass ones troubling?

Nah, I'm sure the fenders are just fine...just I thought (OCD) I'd seen brass
ones somewhere...

Tom

Ooooh...now I remember.

Hmmm...scroll down to "8-wheeled heavy armored car"

There are wheelz out there, but honestly, the kit wheels are dang nice for their age. All they are really missing is the armored covers for the air nipple. And the kit fenders are not bad either, just need some detailing on the stowage doors which the Royal set should include.

Started cutting sprue and assembling undercarriage. From the complexity of the suspension I think I need to start painting right away. I've decided NOT to use the Royal set because I'm not really interested in building up tool clamps out of 8 parts.

Photos later...:mpup

No I have not forgotten this build. Since I got the German Grey out for the 251 I looked over my shoulder to grab the 8rad also.

Think I got time to git'er done. :beer

Undercarrage is pretty much done, got the tie bars and stuff to install. Not much there.

I'm not using all this Royal PE set, some of it doesn't seem to be that much better than the kit part. There's some interesting louvers that i'm going to attempt, already cut out the big one over the engine compartment and will attempt the complex one for the radiator vent. Also some Resin bits that will be used but other than that, and the wheels, that's it.

damnit! :bang head
Just noticed First Blood ends Aug31...well since I got fired from cutting the grass I may have time to finish this now. :soldier

Worked on it last night, ran into a bit of a snag with the louvers, part of the frame broke and a bend joint. Really wish Royal had just made score marks where to bend instead of a slot wiht two tabs on either side, those tabs gave from the moving back and forth a bit. The PE is nice though nickle plated so no soldering unless I scrub it. Don't think I will be using a great deal of it but just enough to enhance. :soldier
