Wreaking Havoc 3: A-20G-20-DO Jack's Hack or A-20G-35-DO Barracuda

Sharkmouth

Information Overload

For my fourth entry, I need to find the photos of Jack's Hack:

For the scheme, Zotz decals had it on their 32nd scale sheet. Unfortunately, due to the owner's wife's death, he will not be producing any more decals and obviously won't scale them down. Fortunately, I was provided the artwork so I can use my Cricut to create masks.

It seems that there is one more expensive book to get:

More affordable and look who is on the cover!

I have the Pacific Profiles book and looking for the Roaring 20s OMG but its pricey. I did find it here for way less than anywhere else though.

I have the same price on Amazon and, after paying off my Amazon Prime card, I should have some rewards to ease the pain! As for the Pacific Profiles book, does it have a photograph of Jack's Hack? Thanks!

I have the Pacific Profiles book

I got in touch with the person who helped Eli (Zotz Decals' owner) research and he stated that I should get the Pacific Profiles 3 book as it is where I will find information on Jack's Hack. I also received artwork from the decals so I can create my own masks using my Cricut.

Going by the dice, which doesn't appear on other aircraft so far, seems this is Jack's Hack without the name on the starboard side but the shark mouth doesn't look anything like the decal sheet or color profile:

The wings got some attention. OK, it is the top of the landing gear bays to be exact. The mounting holes were moved forward one quarter inch. The rear was removed and structural details added to the inside of the upper wing as it would be visible.

By the way, I am working on several Havocs at the same time so this post applies to all:
  1. A-20B Outhouse Mouse
  2. A-20G-1-DO Amorous Amazon
  3. A-20G-20-DO Jack's Hack
  4. A-20G-35-DO Butch
  5. A-20H-5 Miss Behaven
Not seen here but performed; several control surfaces were removed to be replaced by the KMC resin replacements.

Sorry Saul. My wife and boys cleaned up my reading pile of doom and now I am not sure where it is. I cracked my kit open to see but I didnt put it away in there so now scratching my head.

No worries... I have the book in the cart at a good price. :D Holding off on the expensive one though.

While I await my copy of Pacific Profile 3, I contacted the author via FacePlant.

In the meantime, the control surfaces for all five are being worked on since I have two sets of Kendall Model Company's (KMC's) replacements:

Some of the references being used, more not shown yet (like some Czech magazines):

Name of my series...

Excellent book... Not as complete as the other one I posted.

AJ Press with their well done scale plans:

I need to be realistic about finding more information. If Jack's Hack has a sharkmouth like Amorous Amazon:

Then I may go with this ugly A-20G from the 409th BG:

Time to point out detail bits for any modeler working on the Havoc.

This is the wingtip from the start of the A-20G-1-DO to about the A-20G-30-DO (I may correct this range later). Note that the teardrop shaped bulb is the navigation light while the bulb in the clear aft half of the wingtip is a formation light. It should not be green/red.

I will need to cut out the clear section and add it with clear styrene.

Compare to full clear wingtip incorporating both starting with the A-20G-30-DO (this one is serial 43-9716 from the 647th Bomb Squadron, 413th Bombardment Group, 9th AF, after a hard landing in England on the 28th of May,1944):

He Saúl, why don't you just pull all these builds into one thread and when you are illustrating a particular plane, designate which plane in the first line or use a small photo of the plane in the first line. It might be easier to post and easier to follow since most of the builds seem to be same, same.

@Heavens Eagle, it is true that they are the same... for now. Soon, they will diverge on their own tracks as each production block has different details which I will be visiting.

For example, three different wingtips, two different engine cowls, three different engines (I'll only cover visible changes), two different engine nacelle caps, and we haven't even mentioned the fuselage yet!

There, we have four different noses (only for the subjects I am covering as there are plenty more), different upper gun mounts (dual .30 Cal, single .50 Cal, and Martin turret), two ventral armament (.30 Cal and .50 Cal), and different interior arrangements in cockpit and gunners' stations.

I simply hope to have anyone reading about the one they're interested to see the changes needed without having to hunt down the other builds.

As for this one, I think I will be going with Barracuda. So the Eduard PE seat will be fine and I won't need to use the vacuum-formed seat I am using for both the A-20B and A-20G-1 (the hint to the seat change was the change in seat belts). Yes, TMI for most people but I enjoy the forensic work and trust no book as I can see so many mistakes!

As an example, William N. Hess' excellent A-20 Boston at War has this photo captioned as an A-20G when the clamshell cockpit hatch and bombay doors show it to be an A-26 Invader!
