WnW prices

Does anybody else who does not live in the US find this a bit starnge ?

Upcoming price changes
Due to increasing costs and the continued low value of the US$ we will reluctantly need to update many of our prices in the New Year. Despite the value of the US$ dropping by more than 25% against the NZ$ since Wingnut Wings opened in April 2009 we have been able to hold most of these price increases to just 6% to 12%. These changes will take effect from 1 January 2013 (NZ time).

this is from an email i received today.
Why do they charge in US $ when they are in NZ ? If they just charged what they need in NZ dollars we could all pay via paypal at the going exchange rate. It seems very odd that the poor value of the US$ means i have to pay more UK£ ?

I always thought it was a little unusual that their website listed everything in US$ from day one, do they consider the US their biggest market ? I suspect they just need to raise their prices and the exchange rate is as good of excuse as any. Considering the free shipping, the kits are a bargain for what you get. They also set the hook and now they can raise prices without losing many customers.

And you know there will be a run on them since they have announced the date of the price increase. Better stock up huh?

For the quality of what you get, it's a pretty good deal.

The US dollar is the basic trading currency for the world. So as the Us dollar slips against lets say the Chinese and if Chinese make the models it will cost more to produce. Now if the employees are paid in NZ dollars and the NZ dollar increases against the US dollar, the US dollar wont pay out as much. You would have to increase the price to pay the manufacturer and to pay the employees. If you dont the profit margin keeps shrinking, and people sell things to make money not take a loss. Now if they used NZ money it isnt worth as much as the US dollar and so the costs would be higher. Also even though the US dollar is taking a pounding it is still fairly stable while other currencies are not. So until the world gives up on the US and changes their common trading currency everything will be done is dollars and prices will have to increase in order to make money.

My basic understanding of commerce.

I agree if you live in Canada !! but what on earth has the value of the US dollar got to do with me in the UK ?. It completely defeats the object of having national currency's if you set yours against some other economy and not your own. That is exactly why the Euro has not and never will work.
It doesnt matter to me, i will not buy another WnW kit because they are expensive over here because WnW insist on using the postal service who then charge a stupid amount to collect the tax on the kit before they will deliver so you pay import duty and a fee to collect the import duty !!
It just seems odd to me to have to change my money in to the US $ to buy a kit in NZ when it would be cheaper to buy it in UK £. ;)

Just be aware you have to buy before the 21st as they go on vacation until the 14th of Jan I believe.

Don't they only use Paypal? Maybe it has something to do with exchange rates..
