Really good to see the Blackburn Buccaneer now in 1/48.
i dont think it was sold overseas but it was a naval carrier bomber used by our last catapult carriers like HMS Ark royal and HMS eagle.
After the carriers were scrapped they were transferred to the RAF and were always a show stopper at airshows with their ultra fast zero feet arrivals pulling up into rolling climbs. A fantastic all British aircraft. Used as tankers in the Gulf war they were retired in 1993

The South African Air Force operated 16 Buccaneers from 1965 to 1991. The UK government blocked the sale of another 20. They saw combat in the 1970's and 1980's over Angola and Namibia in the CAS role. The US Navy kicked the tires before pressing on with the development of the A-6. The German Navy was also interested in it to replace the Seahawk but the F-104 was selected after the infamous Lockheed bribery scandal.

During the 1991 Gulf War (Operation Granby) the Buccaneer's primary role was target designation for the Tornadoes. A typical package consisted of 4 Tornado "bombers" and 2 Buccaneer "designators". As the ground forces advanced, they also conducted airfield bombing missions. After guiding Tornado ordinance, they would attack targets of opportunity including bunkers, runways and aircraft.

Yes i forgot about the few that went to SA.
There is talk that the airframes from thunder city now with hanger 51 will fly again, i think the 3 TC had were ex UK but they have airframes from SA as well
