Veteran's Day, 2015

My Employer gave me the day off today, so I could go attend to matters of Honor.
My Sweetheart and I left the house, and went up to Van Meter,IA to the Iowa Veteran's Cemetery, for the ceremony there.

Under a suitably sombre, gray sky, Vet's and supporters gathered for the proceedings. Donna & I took up station outside of the Commital Shelter. Our hope was not so agile, not so young attendees might be protected by the building. Reverend Douglas Pfeiffer delivered the benediction. Colonel Bob King (Ret.) had a bit to say. Van meter's Mayor Pro-tem, Bob (Cooter) Lacy did his bit as well.

U.S. Congressman David Young, made his contribution, to honor and remember Iowa's Veterans. He is a good man.
I did rain on us a bit. I've been wet before. We were offered the loan of a bumbershoot, by a young couple next to us, and My Donna kept the worst of the rain of Chuck Smith, Herself, and myself, as well.

Local Musician, Gloria Doyle played a stirring TAPS on an actual Bugle. (none of those fingerish valve-things!)

Afterwards we visited the VFW Post, in Van Meter, and had a plentiful breakfast. Their coffee is REALLY good!! David Young's Mother, Father, & Wife invited us to join them. Congressman Young joined us for a short time as well. He told me he remembered the picture I took with him on Election Day, last and said it was his Christmas card photo this year. :dance He's really a very humorous Guy!!

After breakfast, we took a car-ride up to Linden, Iowa, and found Donna's Parents graves, and paid our respects.

Her Papa served under Patton, in the 3rd Army. Guess what growing up in their house was like! :bat

We visited all My People, interred at Resthaven Cemetery, in West Des Moines and taunted the lazy swans & Ducks. We stopped off at My Grandparents Graves, Grandpa Coll was in the 8th Air Force, as a B-17 ground crewman.

and dropped in on Chuck Sterns final resting place, and shared reminiscences of beloved friends & family. The worst of the Tornadic weather held off until we had safely RTB'd.
A fine day!

Thank you for your service my friend. It shouldn't take 1 day set aside each year to thank service members past and present. We should try to in some way thank them everyday because our freedom was payed for by brave men and women who gave their lives against all enemies foreign and domestic, so that we could live free from oppression.
Just like the SF motto-"De Opresso Liber"-- to free the oppressed. Our military protects us daily from oppression and they should be thanked.

On all the modeling forums I get on, all pay their respects and I think that it is to be commended for.
Good job MA and others, you guys are the best!

Tim

Thanks for sharing the photos, Chris, made me homesick even if the weather was less than perfect. :good:

I never did do one special thing.
All of you are welcome, anytime, by my fire.
USAF People must bring their own liquor! No Jeremiah Weed here!

And now, for something we hope you'll really like!
