I'm not sure why I'm taking on more, but I am. My entry will be a Flak Panzer 38(t) of the 12th SS HJ. I chose them because the Canadians faced them on D Day and in some of the toughest fighting rolled them up.
2 crew members discuss tactics while a third keeps an eye out for danger from above.

I have the Griffon supreme set of PE coming (so I can try Tony s excellent tutorial) and 3 Alpine figures.

BTW do you know how hard it is to take pics with a cat who thinks the universe revolves around her tries to assert her authority??

James

Nice choice James , the figs. are going to be a sweet addition to the 38t ......... I was going to get this kit , let us know how it stacks up ................

By the way , what cat , ............. oh , there she is , couldn't see her at first , blends in with the cammo on the box art .........

Thanks to Tony and Saul I scavenged some solid rim drive sprockets from a Tamiya Marder III M. Still waiting for PE so not getting too far ahead of the game. Most of the arms articulate, but a couple got glued. Bummer.

Does anyone have any good pictures of the engine and engine compartment for this vehicle? I've looked through all my books and all across the net and cant find anything really clear and good. Thanks
James

I do have them of the same chassis, but different vehicle. Um, why (as if I don't know)?

Regards,

Regards,

This has got me thinking about doing the unthinkable. http://www.migproductionsforums.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=2524&start=0
Have checked all my Nuts and Bolts on the 38(t) M, and H, and about 5 other books. I even looked at the original chassis, but it is a bit too different. Looked up the engine and found partials. Cant seem to find a full compartment so I can see if the plumbing is real or imagination. Engine almost all together. Dont want to go too far on chassis until I see what the Griffon set has.
Not even sure why I am doing the effort because the engine will be closed.
James

One of the APG (Armor Photo Gallery) books has the Saumur Marder III opening the engine bay doors to look in.

Regards,

I think I read somewhere the engine is located in the same mid tank spot as the Chech 38t original model ?

Thanks to the PE Maestro Tony for the tip on where to buy flux and low heat solder.
Need more practice, but acceptable.
James

I would be thrilled to get a seam that nice!

BTW, what's the source on that flux and solder?

Hey James, VERY GOOD(y)
One thing I might suggest if I may. Kinda hard to really tell but it looks like you've got a bow from forming the ribs. You can get less of that if you anneal the the piece first. The ribs can be formed easier since the metal is softer.

You might be able to work some of the bow out of the one you've done there by lying it on something flat and (can't find my word,my mind just went blank) oh the act of rubbing the surface with a smooth tool like you do dry transfers.

***I slept on it and the word I was looking for is "Burnish"***

Oh well it's getting late and i'm tired.
Good job
Tony lee:)

Yeah ! Annealing is your Friend !

Tony's gonna turn you into th Metal-smith in no time !! Rave-On ! :dude

Anytime I have even th smallest piece to try to put any type of a radius on , I'll add some heat before rolling it . It really helps a lot !
