Summer Plans

Things seem kinda slow around here lately. I've been hunkered down on the computer screen the last several weeks studying for my test. Last on Monday so.... :zen :zen :zen
After that, I'm going up to DC with my Sister to pick up her grandson from the American University. We're going to spend a couple of days up there taking in the DC sites then meander down the Shenandoah, hope to see Monticello, Maybe Mount Vernon and some battle grounds. We head out July 9th, get him on the 10th, really not sure which direction to come home, we're playing it on credit cards and by ear.

Think Cindy and I are going to be able to slip off together, first time in a while. :love

I got some modeling i want to do but it's been low priority lately, sadly. Maybe if I pass my test Monday I'll have some time this week to get back on the Buffalo.

So Q: The Air and Space Museum. Which one to do? The one in DC or out at Dulles?

Oh without a doubt! :salute

That's on our agenda for sure. We have family buried there. General James Madison Kennedy. Long story but he had a very distinguished career. He was commander at Walter Reed at one time. :salute

We are leaving DC on the 12th because one more day doubles the room rates across the board! Really not sure what direction we'll come home or how long it will take us.

Never been there so I wouldn't know.

Take your camera with lots of batteries and memory cards Bob! :D

I wish you well on your test my friend! Software companies seem to be getting dumber and dumber. I hate Win 8.1 and don't even get me started on Canvas 16.

Air and space at Dulles has most of the military aircraft. The one on the mall as mostly the historical aircraft like, Wright brothers and Spirit of St. Lewis, also Apollo 11 capsule.

Dulles to me seemed less crowed. You do have a toll and pay for parking there. We took the Metro to the mall in 2014.

That's Jeff. I remember waaaayyyy back in 72 going, this was just before the A&SM opened. I seem to recall seeing Spirit then.

We're staying in Tyson's Corner VA so it's not far from Dulles at all.

So what are y'all doing?

Sounds like a good trip Bob, Hope you enjoy it!

My May and June turned out to be a lot more busy than I had planned. I'm taking the first 2 weeks of July off though (first time in 16 years) for some vacation. Hope to spend some time with my girls, get a few things done around the house and get a bit of bench time in then. August is always shot for me with research projects and field sampling. Looks like I might get a chance to come visit the US though and tag some Great Whites this year!!!!!!! :woohoo:

Looks like we'll just miss each other Bob- my family and I are headed down to Williamsburg from 7/1- 7/8...plan on lots of Busch Gardens visits...one day at least in VA Beach where I might check out the air museum.

Past that, I'll take the kids up north at some point in Aug- stay with Mom and I may stay in the Aditondacks a night or two where my uncle built his own camp...gorgeous out there.

Just make sure you go slow ahead.

The wife and I are talking about going to Niagara Falls at the end of August. Neither of us has been there. She's a I Love Lucy fan, so we're thinking of stopping at the ILL museum in Jamestown on the way up.

I was trying to equate Niagra with Lucy...haven't had any java yet so that explains it.

Everytime I think of Niagra I think...

No vacation accrued on the new job, so no vaca this year :(

Plus side is that it is working out very well. We are Irish-owned, so I was thinking I would get a free trip to Ireland out of it, btu the last two that did that quit when they got him, so that has been nixed as you might imagine.

I just got back from taking a week off. According to my work email, setting up an out of office response, my last vacation was October of 2014. Hung out around the house. Ian and I made a couple of sightseeing trips. Monday we went to the Creole Nature Trails' Adventure Point. It's mostly there to introduce out-of-staters to South Louisiana.

One of these dogs is real.

A section teaching about cajun music and zydaco. Ian loves music.

The next day we headed up to the DeQuincy Railroad Museum, about 20 miles to our north. We had the whole place to ourself. The curator of the museum is a retired special ed teacher so Ian got to do a lot of things, like blowing train whistles.

The curator asked if Ian would like to get inside the locomotive. I said sure! She gave us the key to the gate and said "have fun". I love living in and around small towns.

That's so cool! Yes hitting museums on slow day is best.

I don't know why but all of the sudden I got this mombo beat in my head...

:dance :dude

I may make a trip down to the local Museum of Flight this summer. It's been a few years since I've been there. http://www.museumofflight.org/

I may also take a road trip out to Michigan to visit relatives late summer as well. We'll see how all that shakes out though.
