Spot model spain

Well-known member
Very disappointed with spot model in spain where i ordered the MHF Motorcycle kit
The shipping info clearly says

Prices
The indicated price on the item description and shopping cart includes all applying taxes, but does not include shipping fees.

and yet UPS have charged me 100 euro VAT before they will deliver.
I asked spot model if their price includes VAT and they said no despite their claim above.
On checking the price when not logged in so they dont know where i am the price is the same as i paid so basically their price does not include Vat...but it doesnt say that, even if i was in Spain.

This makes it a very expensive model ...so be warned if buying from Spotmodel....

This is why the UK was so keen to get out of the European union.

I dont know so i can only guess but i suspect they the price does include EU VAT which should be removed for customers outside the EU as they will have to pay their own countries VAT.
If so people outside the EU are having to pay VAT twice.

And I paid about that price with shipping for the HPH 1/48th B-36 and it showed up3 or 4 days after I paid for it from HPH directly.

I deal with a LOT of watch parts and they all have listings for no VAT and "with" VAT. It is just another tax ripoff from those running the governments that have no idea how to run things honestly and efficiently.

Ugh!

I always hated the VAT when I was stationed at Mildenhall. Also, wondered, What Value does the tax add ti the product?

I contacted Spotmodel today using a french email address and in French :) Basically undercover 🕵️‍♂️ ...i just asked if their listed prices include VAT tax.
they replied yes there was nothing else to pay within the EU, VAT is included.
This is what i suspected. they should not be charging VAT for sales outside of the EU. It means i over paid by £100 and they pocketed this as they would not have had to pay their Gov this VAT.

I paid VAT on my Airfix Christmas sweater. Perhaps I should put in a gripe to Hornby's. I am curious about what condition your model may arrive in.

All hornby orders in the US ship from Lakewood, Washington. Transit times are estimated from Washington State so you didnt pay UK vat, maybe US vat
I have given up with Spotmodel. They do reply too emails but talk to me as if i am stupid. I dont suppose they realise i ship world wide myself. and probably know more than them having been in the EU and now out of the EU. Basically i have had to write off about $120 .00
They sent me an invoice that shows the full price with zero VAT yet when i wrote yesterday pretending to be French they said all their prices include VAT .

Beg pardon, sir, the Airfix Christmas Jumper shipped only from UK. The invoice included $30.00 USD shipping and VAT.

Ah right , the VAT is charged by the origin country for goods up to £140.00 inc shipping........yes they charge VAT on the shipping as well. ., so your jumper must have been under £140 :) It basically just takes the pressure off the importing customs as they only have to bill the tax for more expensive items..the MFH model was over £400.00

I would wager Hornby's would issue some kind of store credit if I really wanted to whine loudly enough. I'm not really a "whine loudly" kind of guy, AND the included VAT wasn't a surprise or a secret like those wankers in Spain that buggered you. They did just discount the Christmas jumper by 40%.
You might imagine a guy that makes his own model kits would have more patience.
I wanted to wear it for our foul-weather postponed 2 January Club Christmas party.
