Replacement gun barrel for ZIS-3

Balki

New member
Hi everybody!
I'm new here so please be gentle with me. :)
First let me introduce myself. My real name is Tom but friends call me Balki. I have been modeling for quiet a while, but my modeling came to a screeching halt when my son was born and I had to give up my "toy room" so he can have a bedroom. I know, I know, I'm spoiling him already :) Well, very, very, very slowly I'm trying to get back in the modeling saddle and build something just to keep the addiction going.
I have started on a ZIS-3 gun from MiniArt. So far I have a big problem with the wheels, but lucky for me Hussar makes a very nice resin wheel set that I can use as a replacement.
Another problem is the gun barrel. I have found one made by RB Model #35B93, but I'm not sure if it will fit the kit. The kits barrel has grooves in it toward the back and judging from the pictures the RB barrel does not.
Did anybody out there run into this problem?
Thanks!
Balki

Balki,
Welcome aboard... You should introduce yourself in Jenny's friends section.
I can't really help out with the after market barrel, I don't do alot of
after market stuff...
I have a few ZIS-3 kits of the old Italeri one. If you need one for reference,
let me know??? I don't have any of the Mini-art ones so I'm of no help there.

Here's a visual of my dilemma:

First is the RB Model replacement barrel

And here's the kit barrel

Was just wondering if the RB would fit and how much "adjusting" would be required to make it fit?

There is a grooved brass ring that slips onto the RB Barrel first to replicate that section.

The flats on the plastic piece are designed to align the barrel and muzzle brake on the kit using the rear recoil sled support.

On the metal barrel, the muzzle brake rotates and the barrel is designed for several kits (Alan/Dragon Su-76M, Italeri/Zvezda ZiS-3, CMK Tacam, and the MiniArt kits). To use, you will need to drill out the halves of the rear sled support to accept the barrel as seen in the photograph above.

I hope this helps,
