Unveiled today at 3 Wing Bagotville.
Markings are for Hurricane Mk.I P3873 YO-H flown by No. 1 (RCAF) Squadron during the Battle of Britain. F/O Hartland de Montarville Molson was shot down 05 Oct 1940 in this aicraft, bailing out safely. In 62 operational missions he had one confirmed kill, a He111 on 11 Sep.
He was returned to Canada after recovering from wounds received when he was shot down. He commanded 118 & 126 Sqdns on Home Defence duties, No. 8 SFTS and was Director of Personnel AFHQ. He was discharged in Sep 1945 as a Group Captain.
Some will recognize the last name, he is a member of the Molson beer family ( :drinks ) and with his brother purchased the Montreal Canadiens in 1957. He has his name on the Stanley Cup 6 times as owner and is in the Hockey Hall of Fame.
He was a appointed to the Canadian Senate in 1955, retiring in 1933 at age 86. He passed away in Sep 2002.
