PVTE Paul White, 2 RAR, Phuoc Tuy Province, Vietnam 1970-71

JamesOLeary

Master at Arms
I just completed this figure depicting a very good friend of mine with whom I served with in 3-144 IN from 2006 - 2010. Prior to moving to the US and joining the US Army where he served in Grenada and Iraq, Paul White served in Vietnam in the Australian Army in 1970 - 71. He was a Scout and served as the point man for his platoon the entire time he was in Vietnam. While he was issued an M16 as a Scout, he did not use it very long as he acquired a XM177E1 shortly after arriving in Vietnam although they were not standard for the Australian Army. He told me the story about how he acquired it, but I will not tell it here.

This figure depicts Paul after he chambered a round in his XM177E1 while preparing to depart on a short patrol from his platoon's portion of their current perimeter in the bush. The figure is a conversion utilizing several parts from Callsign Miniatures, a head from Ultracast that looks pretty close, weapon from Bravo 6, buttpack from Hobby Fan, and a centipede scurrying in the foreground that I got from Vladimir Demchenko. The vegetation is a combination of grass from Gamers Grass and preserved vegetation from Dioramapresepe.

Here is a photo of Paul with the Soldiers he trained with prior to going to Vietnam. He is the one in the back row at the far left. The other photo is of Paul when he deployed to Iraq in 2005 with 2-142 IN, 56 IBCT.

Soon, I will be making a figure depicting Paul in Iraq to go along with this one.

Thanks for looking.
Cheers,
James
