reason Im asking is that I didn't know the "killroy was here" cartoon was that early :)

Yes, they are WWII vintage and Kilroy really was there!

I have updated the review with some new notes and mention the vintage so thank you Andrew.

It seems this was a mixture of graffiti found on equipment sent to the theater and the receiving troops made associations between the British cartoon "Chad" and the writing by J. J. Kilroy.

Chad often was used to show dismay at items that were out of stock in England and appears on a glider with the phrase "Wot, no engines?"
