Hello All,

My name is James O'Leary and I just registered as a member of this site. A friend of mine who is a member here, Shawn Gehling, turned me on to this site. Thanks, Shawn.

I am primarily a figure and figure diorama modeler with most of my work being of Vietnam subject matter. I am looking forward to being a part of the "Charlie Don't Surf" Group Build.

I've been modeling off and on for the past 35 years or so. I started out helping my Dad put together train layouts where I would play with my cars and tanks when I was about 5. It progressed to playing wargames with Roco Minitanks and then into building some Tamiya tanks and figures from various manufacturers. I have mainly modeled Vietnam or Modern subjects. I mostly concentrate on figures because I'm not too good at making tanks and APCs look real. Hopefully through some of the conversations on this site, I will learn some techniques to make my vehicles look better.

I've been in the military for 22 years and am going for 30. I started my career as a Recon Marine (1988 - 1996) and then have been Infantry and Armor in the Army since 1996. I feel that the things I have experienced in the miltary have helped me convey certain details and nuances in my figures to make them seem more realistic in their poses and the arrangement of the equipment. I've served down south and have deployed to Iraq twice. Perhaps one of these days I will do some figures or some dioramas of OIF subjects.

I look forward to be being a contributing member of this site and hope to learn alot.
Sincerely,
James O'Leary

Welcome James to the best site around. Good first name
I look forward to seeing your figures as I am getting back into painting them, and having to learn all over again.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone.

Mr T, as soon as I get back to the computer where I have my photos saved I will insert the photos with the newpaper and unbuilt kits for the Charlie Don't Surf build. I have several different single figure projects and diormas that I want to work on this year as I have been out of the loop for about 5 or 6 years due to deployments and an increased OPTEMPO. Now I am starting to have time to work on my figures and stuff. Do I sign them up as separate entries?

Thanks.
James

I'd like to thank everyone for such a warm reception.

This is my new favorite site. It's a great one stop shop for the exchanging of ideas and techniques, seeing what is new on the market, and just a plain good time.

Shawn had told me about this site a while ago, but I was trying to get back into modeling and wasn't on the computer much. I'm glad I finally got off my butt to see what the site was about.

James
