MODERN RUSSIAN ARMOUR - T-72B3M in UKRAINE [completed without figures]

Ok, so the teaser pics work just fine for me, incredible, Ian. I chuckled at your comments about what your wife said. My lovely bride has never said that, but she also knows I'm anal retentive, so that would be wasted breath, HA! You comeback is what I would have said myself, lol.

Thanks for the explanation on the aluminum fuel and stowage bins, makes perfect sense, and the way you did that is a handy method to remember for my tool box, Excellent!

Beautiful work Ian , very cool build , I love the scratch/damage/wear on the alum tanks and stowage boxes .

A small update on the last details with finishing the tank. I am finalising the figures currently, so as soon as they are done I will post the overall shots of the little scene.
I removed the turret to do the final mud spatter in various dirt and mud colors from AK. They are actually very good products and each has adifferent consistency and color according to their type, which gives you some great effects. I masked off the areas I didn't want the spatter on with cotton wool and tape as below.

Next was the task of addressing some missing details that I discovered once I completed the model :ph: ....the joy of research on a new subject.:hmm::doh: this is my second modern tank and my first dive into the myriad of T-72 variations.
I neededto add 2 small handles to the comanders cupola outer side. I spotted these at the last minute on a reference shot of a displayed T-72B3M. Once I saw them I started seeing them everywhere in heaps of photos.
*Made with my 'Grabhandler' tool from Mission Models.

I also added boltheads to the armor grates where they fold up and a full scale hardware one with a washer and nut to simulate what is left after the armour section was torn off. Photos are not great - phone cameras are not that good at Macro shots.

I then extended the damaged cammo netting around the barrel but needed to attache and hang clamping tweezers for weights while the white glue mix dried.

Finally a few other details were added like a Corona can and a Pepsi can, as well as some water bottles. I will take more photos shortly when the figures are done and on the dio.

OK, here I go.
This one is finished 'bar' the 3 figures, which I have been procrastinating on now for over 2 weeks (I hate painting figures). So I took some photos without figures and thought I will post anyway and post a couple more when the figures are done.
Here are a bunch of photo's I have taken to try to show all the details. Some have a white background and some a dark black -grey. This is just me experimenting with getting better lighting.
This project has gone well and I am very happy with it, though it was very difficult. The 3 figures in process will be placed around the scene in the following places -
20250524_173628.jpg
1. sitting in the left hand cupola leaning on the hatch looking at the interaction of the gunner with the dog at the front, sniffing the mine spade.
2. The commander standing with hands in his jacket behind the sitting crewman watching the dog as well (this is still a maybe, as I might move his position once painted.
3. The driver, kneeling down, trying to interact with the dog at theleft front of the tank, sniffing the spade.

I also did something a little different with this base and tried to make it appear as though the scene has been ripped from the soil and the sides are crumbling away and leaving cracks with the soil showing through.

Refuelling stop outside Mariupol Ukraine 2022.
I hope I have not attached to many .................. so no figures yet.

As a final note (before I return with the figures done), I took a photo of my work bench with 95% of the paints, pigments and washes used during this project. Desk is clear now though :dude:

I gotta be honest, not a fan of our Flag being treated that way but wow! But that's the point right? You got the story being told here.
So much to see. :notworthy

Hey Bob, sure. I didn't consider the effect on you guys, so apologies in advance if I have offended anyone it was unintentional.
I am being purely creative with the flag (I hope you noticed I took your advice and added the white strip edging. I even added steel washes as in your diagram and threaded the string through but its hidden now by some mud).
This was a real tank in the Ukraine 3 years ago. The flag was shown in the decals and it says it was caught on film in Mariupol in 2022.
For me as a non-American its all about the color against the brown and greens. If it had been an English flag or Australian flag I would have done the same.
Here is a pic of the tank after it was knocked out - as you can see I have removed an extra Relikt panel at the far end, bottom. Visually I liked it better (atristic license).
