At this point I started on the turned metal barrel from Aber. I did not nee to use the PE clamps and nuts on this one as the tank does not have a thermal cover on the barrel.

@Brokeneagle, be wary that Aber is usually good about machining their details onto their barrels. The may have drilled drainage holes onto the bottom of the thermal sleeves (which are machined on the set I bought).

Thanks Saul, I had noticed those on the barrel and wasn't sure if they were a feature of the covers. Looks like i will need to fill them in.

I meant the actual Aber barrel. It also has some groove detail on the turned metal where the straps go, which seems to appear on actual real barrels without the covers. Can you confirm?

The grooves are meant to help you align the PE stiffener strips. Not on the real barrel, so you would have to fill them in as well.

On the bottom of the bore evacuator (thick portion which is also removable but renders the gun dangerous) there should be a drain and I don't recall Aber including it.

So the photos I have of this tank see to not have thermal covers yet the straps are there. What do you think?

The look like marks left over form the removal of the thermal sleeve. I need to check the gun's manual. I have it somewhere here...

Also, this photo is interesting in that the thermal cover could be mounted and rotated so the splines are not at the top!

By the way, if you haven't spent enough money, Aber does produce the gun barrel without the thermal sleeve; "Aber 35L-250 1:35 125mm 2A46 metal gun barrel without thermal sleeve T-64 T-72A"
