I do not improve or try new things because of a desire to win. I do it because I see it online or in a magazine and if it interests me I try it. I take little bits from here and there and amalgamate them in to something new. I cannot do this looking at finished models on a table, I need to see and assimilate the whole process. Don't get me wrong, contests can be fun and winning sure is a rush, but they have nothing to do with improving for me. I can see how some benefit from seeing others works and being motivated to learn something new, but I get that more from here than any contest.
