Kit Suggestions

How about a thread on suggested kits?

I'm looking to do a SBD and a Spitfire in the coming builds. I like the 1:32 range but dont' want to get hung up on a lot of detail needing to be added. Any suggestions?

Only problem with the Tamiya Spit is it isnt for BoB.
Trumpeter makes SBD and Hobby Boss makes Spit Vb. Older kits are Hasegawa and Revel and I think Matchbox.

Subject to correction :cheer:

Other than that I got nothin' ..... I couldn't resist !

The Trumpeter SBD is supposed to be one of their better kits. You should be able to find one for less than $10,000. Matchbox made a 1/32 SBD eons ago, but it would need a lot of work to bring it up to todays standards. Revell made an early Spitfire in 1/32 in the late 1960s. I actually built one circa 1970. It will also need a lot of work to bring it up to todays standards.

Trumpeter would be a safe bet.I just got their 109 and it's none to shabby, even has a little etch.
My only concern may be the decals, although I think this is a new tooling going by the leaflet in the box.
The detail look's good in my humble opinion.

Kurt.

:blink :blink :blink I would hope so!

:woohoo: :woohoo:

I'm liking what I'm reading about the SBD. Thanks Rob.

OK so if I drop back to 1:48 on the Spit, suggestions?

Decals smecals....I can mask it. James already has my hookup on that. Thanks Kurt.

OK,

Heresy here.. In 1/48th scale, Tamiya's wing has the elliptical section starting at the root and not halfway down the leading edge. Given the choice I would go with...

Wait for it...

Airfix!
Replace the canopies as they are a touch too thick but the rest is very accurate and not expensive to boot! It already comes with the 2 bladed Watts propeller for a truly early Mk I Spitfire. So, it depends on the price you find on either kit.

By the way, I am publishing a review on the Ultracast 2 bladed Watts propeller. It is yours if you want it for an early Mk. I Spitfire.

Regards,

And for the SBD, Trumpy is the best in 1/32...I loved mine! If you jump down to 1/48, its Accurate Miniatures...

Na, I think I'm going to stick with the SBD in 1:32. Really want to do that one. Still smoking over the BoB build. Not finding that Airfix kit at my preferred retailer. I'll be cruising the vendor tables tomorrow so maybe something will jump at me.
