Remember D-Day Normandy landing.

We had a visit at our little airport who use to host B-25s training out of Greenville/Donaldson AFB.

Greenwood County Airport used to be known as Coronaca (Pronounced Corn-Acer) Army Air Field, there was a POW camp at the end of runway 09. Like so many local airports our roots go back to WWII.

I've been thinking lately about that generation. They are well in their 90s now, the time we have with them is short as you all know. If you get one of these folks to open up and talk about their experiences listen intently. Their story will be lost soon.

At the 1:00 mark on the second video, one man placed his hand on the shoulder of another. Clearly can see is wedding band. In the photos my Dad took in Korea there's a guy in a column who has his hand on is rifle strap and again, that wedding band clearly visible. Whenever I see that it brings all sorts of thoughts.

A couple of weeks ago, I found a couple of Utube videos. (they were actually audio books) Stories of D-day from the German perspective. There were two 5+hour videos and they were extremely well done and quite fascenating.

I love audio books and Podcasts..........if you like listening to history on a Podcast there are some great listens from Dan Carlin on Hardcore History. His 'Ghosts of the Ostfront' is a 5 Part podcast and is excellent. I think he may have one on D-Day as well.

Even though my movie DVD library is packed up, I did make time to watch The Longest Day yesterday evening. I won't be able to get to my Battle of Midway tradition this year. I start with Tora, Tora, Tora, then Wake Island, 30 Seconds Over Tokyo and then Midway.
