This red primer tone is valid for the barrel? or should go on gray if I do not want to paint it with the color

I have seen photos of dark gray replacement barrels, but the red brown is interesting to me. :good:
 
Nice chipping effects!...according sources, the dark gray was usually used on barrels (heat resistant primer).
