Figures where probably the least entered category. Don's "Snowbound Showdown" is pretty cool! (?) You know, because Warrior Wimmen always fight almost nekkid in the snow.

Some of these aircraft models are familiar, No?!

Winston Vermillia builds mostly 1/32 Models. The XA2D Skyshark was pretty nifty!

Larry Law's 1/72 CH-53 Sea Stallion. The old Revell kit! Larry's model won the "Best Vietnam" special award.
I remember seeing it at our 2019 Show.

There were lots of shiny Models!

Virgil Stansbury built his VW bus for our "Groovy '60's" theme before we lots our venue and cancelled our 2020 show.

Thanks for looking in!

I would like to take this opportunity to Thank all that attended our show.
This year's show was our best show. We had 61 contestants and two hundred and fourteen models entered.
214 models entered was 97 models above our average year.
We still completed judging by 12:20 pm. The raffle was completed by 2:30 pm.
We were a half hour late on starting the awards part of the program. It took us awhile to get our act together for the special awards.
The number of models we combed through for these awards was much more then we had been expecting.
All the vendors sold a fair amount of model related items. One vendor sold 135 car models. Of course, as Chris mentioned, Mark Karolus sold out of all he brought. I put him next to the entry door, second vendor there on Friday night.
Planning has already started for next year.
We asked members and select participants for one pro and one con of the show.
All will be discussed at our May meeting.
Frank

I know everyone had plenty of models to show off since they have been locked down for a year. Glad it went off well :Drinks:

It seems fitting that Frank as a member of the IPMS Fartin' Fleas, should be the member to tell you about the absolutely outstanding attendance this year's show enjoyed. It was small surprise since we all had such a long time to build and had been instructed not to gather, have fun or actually talk to one another for such a long time.

Don Poggemeier, of Blackhawk fame built this awesome N3N-5 Navy Stearman from NAS Ottumwa. This is the Roden kit, with Don's touches of excellence. His 1/32 Westland Lysander is visible in the background.

IPMS Alexander Lippisch Club President Brian Channel in action! Frank Miller assists, as expected!
Long-time member Adam Mangold announced most of the plentiful awards for the Gold/Silver/Bronze recipients. With 214 models entered there were LOTS of awards! Adam could not be shaken by the good natured heckling from the participants. (I wonder WHO would do such a thing?!?)

As for our small contingent of Surgeons, we were well awarded by Lippisch judges.

Joe Lotz' awards.

Dane Curtis Jerisk (Don's Grandson) awards, excepting the award he got for his 1/24 1969/79 Camaro model. OOPS! I missed one. MUTHERPUSSBUKKIT!

Don won 3 Gold awards but gave one back. He misunderstood Adam about what the 3rd one was for. It sucks when your ears don't work quite right!!

20210417_155128.jpg20210417_155134.jpg20210417_160705.jpg20210417_160713.jpg20210417_160800.jpg
I was awarded 1 silver and 4 gold awards in Ships, Miscellaneous and Sci-Fi/Fantasy. Godzilla was completely surprised to see a Gold! No 'Zilla, you can't eat this shiny thang! SOGAI!! (and other Japanese random phases I have learnt along the way.)

Mark Karolus received 4 awards. I missed getting a picture of his F-104 model. US Coast Guard vet/EMT-Fireman builds whatever he likes, but gets paid to review/build model ships by Fine Scale Modeler magazine. Well, that he owns a 1/1 scale WWII Gato class submarine in Wisconasin. Mark is being considered for honorary membership in the IPMS Plastic Surgeons.
20210419_190355.jpg
I sent Mark some parts I make that he wanted for his1/700 US Navy USS Gary DE-R honor model. I included some random fun resin stuff to play with. He built my Horace Hunley and reset him on a different base. Then, Looney Mark sent him home with me! The unwritten universal law of model-roscity in action.
20210419_182354.jpg
Not only did he sell me 2 crazy-rare ship models for a pittance, Mark gave me another 1/700 kit I wished for from his boundless collection. Then a present was included. I waited until we got home to see what it was. "Think of Wisconasin when you see what it is." Aye aye, Mr. Karolus! Damn the Martinis!! Full Speed Ahead!

What Frank can't tell you all is how the Fleas have come a long way since an early Show when they awarded resin castings and had a small attendance in the Cedar Rapid area. What else He won't say is how hospitable, friendly, well-run and absolutely FUN their show truly is.
How speedy and how hard the Fleas judging and registration teams work. How well run and honest their HUGE raffle always is operated. When Gold awards got scarce, I tried to re-donate 3 of mine for other model makers, and Frank would have none of it. "We got it covered." His comments can't possibly cover how well the whole Club and volunteers come together to make this contest a success. From humble beginnings, The IPMS Alexander Lippisch Club show has evolved to represent the Gold Standard of how model contests should go for entrants, vendors and spectators alike.

A Laurel and Hearty "HARRUMPH!!" to IPMS Alexander Lippisch!
Skip this show and the loss is yours alone to bear.
Frank "45!!!"
Me "You bellowed, SIR!?!" (My midshipman's jersey number was actually 65)

Now for some fluff! A QUIZ!!
Quotable Quotes from the car ride:
Guess who said them!
"What's that smell? Don, put your shoes back on!"
"I'm in a car full of Nerds."
"Where are your going to store that huge submarine model kit?"
"I heard your 'Beer Laugh'. How was lunch?"
"Where did THAT box (of Monogram models) come from?"
"Do you think Meema will remember where we've been when we get home?"
"Hide those (Spaghetti & meatballs) leftovers. Tell your Grandma we ate at Burger king."
"Knights Never Fart!"
"It was the first exit."
"Look man, I've been awake for 9 minutes. You've been drinking coffee, haven't you?!".
"Move the Car over 2 spaces. (somebody) will think we left him. Classic road-trip joke."
"He's still wet behind the ears. (Checks his ears) No I'm not!"
"Imagine how nice it is. A whole day without talking about prescriptions!"
"If you tie his hands, He can't talk to anyone."
"How long can you really pretend to interested?"
"Both their wieners are bigger than their buns. It MUST be hereditary!"
Handing over a business card "Call me when the time comes." after eyeing rare model ship kits with envious intent.
"There something VERY wrong with your judges!"

See, going to a model show isn't truly all about the contest. The great fun shared by beloved friends upon the highways and byways of our Great Nation are a part of it as well.
Submit your best guesses and win a PRIZE!!

I suggested before the Great Submarine Sleep-over, the Surgeons should have a group build to make models of Mark's USS Cobia to give to the volunteers at the Wisconasin Maritime Museum. I should be more careful about what I say out loud!
These are 17 of Teresa's Raffle prizes. We gave one away before the picture was snapped. The Lord and his infinite sense of humor! I almost forgot to post this picture!! My hand to God!

Chris, good luck building the Gato Submarine...a little bigger than your 1/700 stuff!
Well, Young Mister Bettis! Welcome aboard! We may have to build a garage to accommodate this grand Submarine model.
I can build bigger models. I just clearly choose not to.:drunks: :drink:rimshot

I really like the larger models, but just have to draw the line at oversize subs. (have a 1/200 Gato in the stash though)

Where did that 1/72 Peterbilt come from? Talk to me before you talk to that Mark from the Left Coast.
