I broke a long standing promise!

I have said many times, not only on here, but on many venues, that I never sell my work! I did once many years ago, (The Winds of War), and have regretted it ever since. However, this week I was contacted by an Australian businessman who wanted to buy one of my car dioramas. I told him no, I don't sell my dioramas. Then he said, "Well, how about that large scale yellow Ferrari Testorossa"? If you have never seen it, here is the end of the SBS I built it for right here on MA.

We discussed it for a bit, then he offered me U.S. $5,000.00 and I thought, What the hell, why not?

Anyway, he is a very wealthy man. He is flying to St. Louis from Australia for a local event here on sunday in his private jet. He said he wanted to see the museum and buy one of my models while in town. The man is really into cars, owns an international racing team, etc., etc. He asked me not to disclose his name. So, I am meeting him sunday at Gateway raceway across the river in Illinois for the American National NHRA drag races and he has sent me box seat tickets and a pit pass! I've wanted to go to one of these since I was a teen! Cool! (y) (y) (y) (y)

:woohoo: Damn BOB like DAMN :woohoo:

When he said $5K, I put my hand over the phone and said something similar to my wife Susan! That'll buy a lot of steak dinners man! Plus, I checked on a price for a plexiglass top for my big diorama and learned it will be around $1600. I bought them back in the 70s for $400! Can you say inflation? :dude

You deserve every cent, Bob! The owner of The Military Shop tried to negotiate a lofty sale for my Uboat VIIC, but it was not to be. The amount of time you put into a build never really evens out in hours per pay, but I'd say ya dun good. :good:

:good: good deal and with the tickets and all the other goodies i think you come out on + :coolio

Australian businessman, into races, owns a team - not me, nope. Pretty close though :rotf

It's your work, your call Bob, I think you have every right to decide what to do, long standing promise or not. I think it's a good thing that rich people from Australia are buying your work. Who knows, they might invite you to one of the V8 races round here :drinks

Cheers,

Laurence

I think that was a fair price, with a great bonus! Your builds are really no different than the big custom car builders do.

I'm late getting in here - So how was it!

Should have warned you, those Force girls don't hurt the eyes ...or Leeza Diehl....... Mellow Yellow girls too :blink

Who? Me? I'm too old for that stuff! Well, the babes were awesome! Guess maybe I'm not THAT old! :yipee

The races were incredible. The last time I had an interest in this, the big guys were Don Garlits, the Cobra and the Mongoose, etc. I wore ear plugs and put my hands over my ears and the noise was still painful. 300+ MPH in 3 seconds. The ground shook throughout the entire run!
