Gaz,
LOL
We had a big bang with Mt St. Helen a few years back and it's a tourist
attraction big time now...
They sell all kinds of stuff made from the ash.

I remember it well. It would be the 30 year Anniversary in May this year, if memory serves.

It only seems a short time ago.

I do believe you are right... 1980. It is quite a site to see, now that it is finally
coming back to life (plants, trees, they even have fish coming back to some of
the streams and lakes that were completely wiped out).
The Mt. St. Helen Ash is used for sculptures and such and is a big business.
They have even made jewelry from Mt. St. Helens Emerald Obsidianite. I guess it's
a stone that was formed from the heat of the volcano and it sells like hotcakes
around here. They say Mt.St.Helens emeralds were made from fused Volcanic Rock.

I wasn't around here then, I was floating around in the Pacific Ocean on my way
to the Middle East for my 1st of many visits to that area of the world.

I must admit at the time I was just having to decide how to start my working life. Being born and raised in a major armaments town, that has made gunpowder since 17th century, and was the home of the Lee-Enfield, Sten, Bren amonst many others. It is itself now a tourist attraction and wildlife reserve. I don't think anything local would have been a very good tourist gift. Mind you it depends on what you like. We do have the only lorry made from Phospher bronze to transport Nitroglycerin!

Gaz. :)
