Hobby Boss M3A1 Finished

Re: Hobby Boss M3A1 scout

I think that roller was for getting over obstacles easier... maybe i'm wrong but it doesn't look like a winch to me.

Re: Hobby Boss M3A1 scout

Thanks James Excuse my ignorance but what is the roller on the front ? Is it a winch ?

Unditching roller, or deditching..or roller. notice the springs on the side, it had some give. I do wonder how useful it was as we don't seem to see that in modern off road vehicles.

Looking good Paddy :soldier :soldier :soldier

Re: Hobby Boss M3A1 scout

 Yeah I was wrong! But I have seen versions with a winch....SORRY for the confusion.

Greetings,Ron.

Re: Hobby Boss M3A1 scout

Yeah an unditching roller. Meant for crossing trenches. Most vehicles came with winches like this.

You are not the first to think its a winch ;)

I am calling this done now until its in position on my Diorama
Hugely enjoyable kit to build highly recommended.
Only downside and its minor really. You get no accessories in the kit so you need to source your own packs rolls bags and jerry cans. No figures either or sand boards for the stuck wheels.

Thanks for following this and all the usual help especially Saul who came up trumps again (y)

Oh..... and i put a small amount of tow rope on the front roller as storage :)

Looks fine Paddy, two things jump out at me, be sure to weather up the inside of the wheels and take the lugs off the wheel that's removed (y)

Re: Hobby Boss M3A1 scout

Both good points Bob...Im on it now . I will add some decals when i find some as well
cheers :drinks

No worries Sul, i guess your referring to the lack of lug studs on my hub ? I will add some thanks ;)
The photo i found showed a slightly conical hub but i guess like Brit stuff it was made by lots of different manufacturers.

Close up Pictures really show up things you just dont notice with th4 naked eye !! Now i need to sand that line of the tire
Still we have wheel studs and the lugs nuts are gone.......getting there slowly.

I'm tempted to break a golden rule now and do an aircraft before i continue with my diorama. Not good leaving something unfinished but i have two or three more Desert type trucks to do and i am trucked out at the moment.

If anyone says there is no air valve in that tire i will stamp on it  ( i already added one) ;)
