French Curtiss Hawk

Print Scale offers a couple of nice decal sheets for the 1/72 Hawk 75 as well.

The Hobby Crap kit was the first one I built when I got back into modeling. UGH... I also built one a couple of years back with a resin pit and engine... ugh...

Why the 'ugh'? I built several simply because of David Veres' involvement in the decal selection. He asked, and I delivered, as many obscure markings as I could. Yes, the kit was crap but the 75M/N/Q were all wonderful in my eyes! Especially the Thai 75N. I did change the barrels for white metal ones I took from a Fokker D.XXI kit from Classic Airframes. The person I built it for didn't care, as much as I did, that the engine was severely undersized to fit into the oval cowling instead of the correct diameter with the front fuselage widening to meet the circular cowling, Clear Prop has this corrected on their kits.

In hindsight it was not a good choice for my first kit back. I have seen several built and they were all quite nice. This was long before I discovered all the wonderful "online" forums, IPMS, EweTube etc.

None the less, I am still Jazzed about the new Arma Hobby kit.

Right! It's high time we had a modern tooling of a 1/72 P-36 Hawk!

As you should be as I am sure it is EXCELLENT! No sharkmouth on them so I didn't get the Dora Wings releases but that Thai bird stuck in my head when I first saw her and I insisted on those markings when Ed (the one whom I built the Hawk 75N for) bought the kit.

By the way @Barney, I was laughing at the Hobby Crap comment as it is a term I used on many of their kits! I did like their Bf 109 series as they were 'inspired' (yet reworked) by the then excellent Hasegawa (early 109 series with HobbyCrap including a copy of the Verlinden resin seat) and the then excellent Monogram, later Revell, late model kits. I even proved it in my 'sandbagger' thread where I mixed and matched the HobbyCrap and RevelloGram late 109s...
