Ok here is part 2 of the fort Eben Emael[Belgium] photo recon. :)

I took the guided tour inside this huge fort,you can take a guided tour in Dutch,French,German and English,
led by enthousiastic guides who know were they are talking about.Take good walking shoes to the fort,you need them for sure.The tour can take up to a few hours.[and that's just the inside]

1 of the 2 remaining DFS-230 gliders [replicas] the other one is in a museum in Berlin and also will get to Fort Eben Emael in the year 2014.
Notice how cramped the gliders inside is.

You get a film before the tour,so you know a bit of what happened.

One of the 4 heavy MG post on top of FEE used as anti-aircraft defence.

This is how the Germans transported there gliders towards their targets;

The one that wasn't succesfull;

The then secret weapon and key to the succes of the assault on FEE;the devastating hollow charge explosive,the big one is 50 Kilogram of weight!

The penetration holes of the hollow charges,doesn't look like much but the devastation inside the fort was unbelievable horrific!

Very long tunnels and stairways...

Hi Ron,

Seeing these pics, its amazing what these guys achieved !
I was there when it was just opened for the public, late 80's ? Cant even remember the exact year.
At that time there were no guides and one could freely walk around.
Well, there was only rust and dust then, the guns were nothing but heaps of brown iron.
On the other hand you could touch and climb everything :woohoo:

But now they have everything nicely restored and a lot of interesting museum stuff in there.
Nice to see it back after all those years !

Good report Ron, I might visit it again some day.
