Figure Conversion - Compassman

JamesOLeary

Master at Arms
It has been a while since I have been to the bench. One of my current projects is a conversion of this Andrea figure of a WWII US Marine to a US Soldier in Vietnam shooting an azimuth with a compass. I liked the folds and wrinkles of the Andrea figure's trousers and the worn look to the boots and wanted to use that as the basis for a conversion.

My first step was to make the boondockers worn by the Marine into jungle boots. I am doing this by carving away resin to form the shapes of the various leather parts of the jungle boots.

After I got the basic shape of the leather portions of the jungle boots, it was time to carve the nylon support details.

Since these photos were taken, I have sculpted the first thigh pocket on the left leg.

Thanks for looking.
Cheers,
James

Here are some photos from a couple days ago of the left pocket. Hopefully I can get more work done on the figure tomorrow. It would probably be a good idea for me to come up with a torso for this guy, too. Currently I am waiting for a Verlinden set of SAS guys where one of them is shooting an azimuth with a compass. I plan on using at least the hands if not the entire arms for this figure.
