Eyewitness museum [NL]

Went to the Eyewitness museum in Beek [the Netherlands],ofcourse I share the pics with you guys.

This little museum is build around the collection of mannequins, basicly telling the story of a German Fallschirmjäger [paratrooper],starting from the invasion of the Netherlands in May 1940 up to the end of the war in May 1945 in Berlin.

So in many diorama's you will see back the same Fallschirmjäger figure again.
Got to say the mannequins are about the best I did ever see in war museums!
Check out the faces, some even have really well done facial hair. :good:

Some pictures I took are too dark, while other ones had just too much reflecting light from the glass,so I deleted them. :(

Here we go;

Thanks for dropping by!
Greetings,Ron.

Didn't know i was there to! :D
Wouldn't like to walk around there in the dark! really lifelike mannequins!!
Thanks for sharing Ron :good:

Some of those wax figure artists are amazing...even when the real person is standing next to his wax double you can't tell them apart. This looks like quite a place...they do a great job of recreating the emotions of the scenes through the facial expressions

Great pictures Ron. there is a Brit there needs a shave ;-)
You seem to have a lot of museums and memorabilia over there ? In England we tend to think that the rest of Europe doesn't like to remember and would rather move on. I know we Brits have a reputation in Germany for always bringing up the War :) Maybe its not just us (y)

Outstanding post Ron, thank you so much! I feel like I walked through with you there, except I didn't get to have a good beer with ya...:drinks

Hey, nice to hear from you Ron. Thanks for sharing the pictures . Some of these are absolutely gut wrenching . Much more thought provoking than a pile of rusted metal they call a tank .

I'm sure my long gone relatives would have commented on them.

This has the first time in a long while since I have seen a German helmet with the trio-color flag on it > Is this a forgotten insignia or were they not widely produced ?

Also, the first trio of German . The one in the blue uniform ( on the left ) looks remarkably like Jean-luc Pikard , captain of the enterprise :rotf

Cheers, Christian B)

Wonderful stuff,...

Are those uniforms originals ?

I echo the part about being there along at night with that lot, Id need and extra pair of pants !!!

What a great time you must have had, Ron! I know that would have got me charged up for a month. Great photos, thanks for sharing. (y) :drinks

Hi,Paddy!
The Brit who needs a shave.... :hmmm ...Winston Churchill?
Guess you are talking about the British paratrooper.Yeah amazingly detailed face, that's why I took a close up.

There's still a lot to find about the 2nd WW in these parts of continental Europe.
I know many of the older generation around here unfortunately still dislike the Germans.Guess it was horrible living under nazi-laws for several years.
But nowadays we all are friends...AND THAT'S HOW IT SHOULD BE. :)

Thought provoking;...you are absolutly right,Christian! But it's just the cruel face of war,and it wouldn't do this kind of museum justice if they didn't show it.Everytime I see a scene like the concentration camp prisoners it makes me think about what really happened, and I hope many people feel the same.

About the German helmets with the shield insignia;I do understand it was common in the early war years, but later on it was seen lesser and lesser, however you could still see some helmets with it in the later stages of the war.

...'make it so,number one!'

The uniforms are most likely originals Andy. They asked me not to use flashlight while taking pictures,
it seems that the camera flash can damage the colors of the uniforms over the years.[So yes you could use them for reference] :)

If you and Mats would like to visit the museum, give me a call and your 'uncle Ron' will come along to hold your hands. :D

I agree Ron . I think everyone should have a good look at war . It would probably make more people think better of It . Particularly the young people growing up now day that have respect for nothing.

I'm not a coward by any means, but I shudder to think was those tough men witnessed that they would not speak about it the rest of their lives.
Still, the women and children suffered as badly . Awful stuff

Ron , when I was younger there seemed to be a lot of those German helmets in films . Seems that it has been nearly forgotten now.

Beam me up :D Cheers, Christian B)

I remember my older aunts talking about how she didn't trust those "Japs" who started showing up around here. they were working for Fujifilm and brought all sorts of money to our local economy. Don't think any of my generation holds any ill will, especially those making a paycheck from them! :dance

Well have a virtual one with me then,Pups!

Going back to the bench to do some damage control now,did a really bad paint job with Vallejo acrylics.
Think the hot weather around here caused the paint to go all grainy. :S

Greetings,Ron.
