Dug in Panther dio - Update 10/Oct

Brokeneagle

Master at Arms
Something I have had on the 'Real Bench' for some time and decided I should finish it and putting it up here should help that to come about.
I have found a number of pictures online to a specific tank that has some really nice textures in the scene. I know this one has been done by others already but I have wanted to do this for about 10 years or so........
Reference pics.......

I will use the basics of this scene to do a close copy but some street details and people will be changed.
I am using the cheapest Panther kit possible as it will be basically a shell buried in the ground. The Italeri kit was the best candidate.
I also added the VP Panther Engine bay kit in resin for detailing the empty engine bay.

I have dug a hole in the base and added a cobblestone card surface as well as completing most of the tanks , cutting out what was neccessary.

I am in the process of cutting-off uneccessary detail and adding/ modifying the engine bay resin to fit and look the part. Battle damage and zimmerit paste will also need to be added.

very neat!

I am curious why this tank is buried in the middle of a perfectly paved street coverd in rubble? seems out of place.

They were used as a last ditch effort in Berlin and other German cities to create an anti tank defense at key intersections. This setup provides a lower profile and the chassis used were 'cobbled together with patched turrets in a kind of 'recycling', when the effort to get them running was not worth it.

Another small update ; scratching-up the engine bay with sheet plastic. The VP update I had did not have full side walls.
Its a very quick draw up and a bit rough but it will be half filled with junk and rubble anyway.

Another Covid Update.........
still in progress on the mods with a few more weld seams to enhance and some more rear damage to the backplate. I added the exhaust outlet castings because I had some spare and i thought that they would add a little bit more than a flate bare plate.
I also added the circular lfting hooks to the top left and right rear turret plates , my interpretation anyway of what I can see in the photo.
