I'm not laughing.
I keep a pair of 2.75X readers on the bench, currently i'm stable at 2.x for everyday reading. 3.0 gives me a head ache so I figure they are too strong. I figured out how ol' Ben Franklin created the bifocal when I caught myself with both my every day readers and the work bench reader on my nose and i was working my head up and down seeing the detail I was working.
But I haven't graduated to the full on bifocals yet, still can get my glasses over the counter.

I've been getting by with the readers for about 7 years now but I have slowly been having trouble with the in-between distances like trying to read the score clock on the TV when I am watching a game. Didn't think it was all that bad until the doc started flipping the lenses. I thought holy crap...

I can definitely see that happening, wouldn't that happen with bifocals too?
They want like $200 more for the progressive over the bifocals so I am wondering if they are worth it.

Did you have bifocals before you tried the progressive Chuk? As this is my first time ordering glasses (besides readers) I have nothing to compare it too. I feel like I'm shooting in the dark.

I've gotten away with a corrective lens on just one eye these last few years...but as I've passed 42, those days appear to be drawing to a close as my good eye starts getting old...I'm reading everyone's advice with interest...

I have only used the line type so can't comment on progressives.
One thing to keep in mind is that you can usually specify how much of your lens is the reading part. I usually have the reading part extend almost half way up as I find I end up moving my head less to read things and it works out better for me at work. I also have a pair of computer glasses because I tend to have my monitor set back beyond my normal reading distance to allow more work space in front of it so it's sort of a mid range and reading glasses.

I had my first part of progress prescription lenses when I was 18, and got rid of them 2 years ago at 30. I always liked them, they worked quite well for me, but glad to not need them anymore. Glasses are definitely a lot cheaper w/o them.
I had bifocals in the sixth grade! I was the little kid with specs in first grade (six years old)- I got hard contact lenses in seventh grade after I had been told I could only read for school work or it would ruin my eyes. No models, either! The contact lens doctor was the best guy ever- I could read and model and whatever as much as I like. The best ever, that is, until the Lasik doc who said I was a candidate. He gave me 20/20 vision- a nice little improvement over 20/900.
I got a pair of progressives a couple of years ago- they were bifocal 360 degrees around, so the only distance focal point was looking dead ahead. No laying on the couch or in bed to watch TV. The worst glasses ever! I was truly happy to drop them in the donation bin.
