Death and Devestation in WNC

First I want to say that personally me and my neighbors really dodged a bullet,we avoided flooding and damage in the storm, and only lost power for 26 hrs but the area is pretty devestated,Asheville got hit hard, small towns like Black Mountain,Boone,Chimney Rock, and Swannanoa were devestated, will be a long time for them to recover.us and our neighbors are on wells and are supplying water to others who make it in,many are hosting family and friends.Even for us gas and food is scarce, and lines are long.Every day situation with power and communication improves, but its gonna be awhile.
I don't know how many board members in the South East were affected but my thoughts are certainly with them. This is bigger devastation to me then when I was in NJ for Sandy

Glad to hear from you Tony, was worried about you.
I imagine a lot of folks moved to the mountains to get away from that kind of weather, they are calling this 1000 year event.
We got power back on Monday, Bruce and Eric are still down. I have very minimal damage.

I saw a vid. of the Asheville Wendy's underwater. God keep you all that were in Helene's path.

Couple of more local resources.

this morning it was reporting 45 dead, now it's 61, that's Buncombe county alone.

We're actually investigating getting Starlink up at the plant in Arden, they have power and all employees are safe.

it is really sad to hear this and I wish ya all the best.

Two years ago we had a major rain flood in a valley in Rhineland Palatinate that cost many, many lives. I fear this is the time we live in now, when storms, downpours and floods are becoming more and more severe.

I don't live there in Rhineland Palatinate, I know several people there. I live on the North Sea coast and if the dikes break one day, I'm sure I'll have very wet feet and probably a lot more.

As I said, my best wishes to everyone over there.

Been thinking about everyone over there, hang tough Guys, that looks nasty. It's going to take neighbors helping neighbors to get thru this one and from what I'm hearing yall are makin it happen.

The photo I posted of the neighbor's yard with all the trees down? Well it's full of cut and split firewood piles. Folks stopping and loading up left and right!

This youtuber seems to be based in WNC.
He's getting around and interviewing survivors.
Just drives home to me how blessed we are to have no more damage than we do.

This video focused on Asheville. I rarely watch one this long. This disaster in my favored areas of the Sunny South fairly rends my heart.
For those of you unfamiliar with the area, the 1992 "Last of The Mohicans" movie was shot in Chimney Rock park.

There was a follow up video with a light blue Huges 500 helicopter that showed how the roads were washed away and a lot of damage from up in the air. Excellent videos.

The average American is who is helping average Americans, nobody else will. Good to see all those helo crews stepping up to chip in along with other non-gov teams. It is so awesome to see that.

We've got another one hitting FL right now, expect more of the same.

The Big problem we have here is running water in Asheville and some unincorporated towns, they just hooked up a 36" bypass to the reservoir, but it is badly silted, looks like chocolate milk,so if they got it flowing,it would clog the filters ,then once it flowing, they will discover more leaks and breaks,so it's still awhile away.Water handouts are plenty, but thats not easy for such a long time. Those of us in the country are on wells, but I have had family and friends over to shower or fill containers.
Markets are carrying most items and there are lot of agencies providing handouts for those who need it gas is plentiful,no price gouging.

I read about the bypass. it's like two steps forward, one step back.
Tony I really don't think people realize what has happened up in WNC. We're pretty much back to normal now but some are still struggling. I know there's efforts in Greenwood to get hot meals to those still without power. My Sister is still without power, she has some structural damage.

good ol' channel 13 has been my go to for news.

Moon, remind me what town your in,I'm in Leicester,it's all wells out here,so once power's back, waters back, but still many out, especially the single remote houses

I'm in Due West SC.
Let me know if you need anything, would be glad to come up. Google maps has a route for me.

Glad that you are mostly back to normal Tony. There is a fellow who goes by Joker and has a Utube channel called Better Bachelor. He also is on another broadcast site "Locals" and "Rumble". On locals his channel is also Better Bachelor, but on Rumble it is "Odd Man Out". He has turned from doing mostly women doing stupid and bad stuff to covering the news that the mainstream news services are trying to hide and discredit. Been eye opening.
As he is located just outside of Knoxville, he has been doing large donation runs from there over to Ashville and now the other areas as Ashville seems to be doing OK. A lot of folks on his sites have been donating $$ so he can carry supplies to the areas in need.
Several things he has popped up with are these:
-It had been about 10 days before any National Guard or help of that type showed up.
-The idiots running things (DC) are basically clueless and actually doing stuff that is slowing down help and recovery (according to local folks in affected areas).
-Yeah, the crap is going down hill from there. Can't trust mainstream news (lies) anymore, so most information is coming through Twit X now and the information with videos and other proof is horrible to behold.
