CTA Build Moon Puppy Corsair

Well I'm biased, but Hampton Grays a/c would look good.

VC action

On August 9, 1945, at Onagawa Bay, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, Lieutenant Gray led an attack on a group of Japanese naval vessels, sinking the Etorofu class, escort ship Amakusa before his plane crashed into the bay. The citation for his VC, gazetted on November 13, 1945, describes what happened:

ADMIRALTY Whitehall, 13th November 1945.

The KING has been graciously pleased to approve the award of the VICTORIA CROSS for valour to: —

the late Temporary Lieutenant Robert Hampton GRAY, R.C.N.V.R.,
for great valour in leading an attack on a Japanese destroyer in Onagawa Wan, on 9 August 1945. In the face of fire from shore batteries and a heavy concentration of fire from some five warships Lieutenant Gray pressed home his attack, flying very low in order to ensure success, and, although he was hit and his aircraft was in flames, he obtained at least one direct hit, sinking the destroyer. Lieutenant Gray has consistently shown a brilliant fighting spirit and most inspiring leadership.[2]

Gray was one of the last Canadians to die during World War II, and was the last Canadian to be awarded the Victoria Cross. His VC is owned by the Gray family.

Here's your beer! :drinks :drinks :drinks :drinks :drinks :drinks

I'd suggest several shades of "wood", I like Panzer Aces New Wood, Old Wood, Tamiya Deck Tan, Wooden Deck Tan (yes, there's two) and then washes to blend it. Rock on, brotha!! (y)

But it was a metal airplane.... :idonno

:rotf

I know about the wood, asking about what unit was flying Corsairs off wooden flight decks. :hmmm

Did a search via google. Some say they have evidence that all (American at least) carriers had stained blue decks from the start of the war. Others say that early on the decks were left bare. Though they would naturally weather quite quickly.

I've no idea if this site has valid information but it's certainly interesting.

Thanks Matt, there's a lot of info out there and like so many things we hit, lot of it conflicts. I've read that the soapstone they used to scrub the decks down with stripped the paint. But from Saul's pictures it's clear they had blue decks. Looks like the JEEP Carriers were wood.

Screw it, i'm going with a wood deck, someone have fun calling me on it. :coolio

Will someone please tell me why I save broken drill bits? I came to that realization this week, threw out a boat load and got my stash of bits cleaned up.

F4U008.jpg

I dressed up a good bit on the front side but nothing in back, ain't going to be seen. Really could have used the kit engine for all that can be seen in there.

F4U009.jpg

Engine assembly complete, yes, broke the hell out of the prop shaft, will figure out something to make the prop sit right.

F4U010.jpg

The back end of the engine, I made an effort to show some heat distress on the exhaust pipes but with everything put together, can't see it.

Guess i'm going to paint it up in some blue. Hope next week will give me some time to git'er done!

Thanks for looking.
