Competition Year 2015 is over

This weekend was the last competition for me in 2015.

This year I wanted to hit as many show as I could, to see who, what and how they do it, both in terms of organisation, participation, models, socialising and all that.

Happy to say that the social aspect has been great except for one show, I met some really nice people and said Hi to some I had already met in the past.

When it comes to competing, a whole different experience. Not suffering from the sour grapes syndrome, I scored a few awards, but judging is done based on whch direction the wind blows on the day, rather than on a rule that applies to everyone, whether they are club members or not.

Over the next few days, I will add some photos to this thread, from the various places I have seen this year.

Next year, it will be all different. I have decided to slow down with the number of models I build, as I know that takes away from the quality I want to achieve. There will be 3-4 competitions, all going well that is.

Laurence, I hear you Man, I've never competed in a contest, I did like Eagle Quest better than Scale fest. At scale fest I had watched the judging, scared the Heck out of Me, but at Eagles quest you are judged by other modelers & the public I think. One of the head guys for Scale fest, saw my work on the Fry truck I was working on before, my downturn, in attitude, and said He was going to enter Me for next year. Who knows I may get My stuff together by then ... Good luck with your endeavors :dude

Rhino has the healthiest attitude on model shows I've ever heard, his credo is "Show up, enter some stuff to support the club, buy some raffle tickets, schmooze a lot, buys some stuff from the vendors, schmooze some more, take some photos, clap for the winners and haul home the loot." He always comes home happy, unless someone leaves the venue in tears because they didn't win anything and leaves us to find the restaurant on our own. :coolio

I hear you about the judging, got to take it for what it's worth. Just keep building and enjoying the builds.

I feel you 'Wolf. Model contest judging, is like every other kind of Judging. It's subjective, depending on the Judges personal preferences and experiences. It's referred to as "The Flavor of the Day" in some cases.
HOWEVER, what would happen if your worst Build, inspired a less experienced, or junior Modeler? Shared Techniques, & tricks to make a more satisfying, accurate Kit? To enjoy modeling that much more?

Not one of us wishes to spend the $$ or the time, to go to a Show (Some Clubs are more fun than others!) and "Lose". When I finish a kit, which isn't often, and I've pleased myself with the result, That's a WIN!! If that model gets an award, I'm usually surprised & humbled. I care little for whatever the Judges like that day. I do not want to catch my "Train up to Heaven", before I pass along SOME of what I've learned all these years! Do any of us? This Life, right here, is a finite affair Gents. DO NOT squander one second of it!!

It is rumored our Hobby is dying. If that is so, why are the Manufacturers pumping out EVERY kind of model anyone would ever wish to make? These are Halcyon days to be a modeler, my Brothers!

I say "Damn the Martini's, FULL SPEED AHEAD!" :captain Spend the $$, win the raffles, laugh with friends you never knew you had. Avoid the Fun-Hating Model Turds! Eat lunch somewhere cool! Support the Clubs! Give a cool model to a Veteran! Give raffle prize to a Kid! Be bigger than ourselves!
If your life ends tomorrow, with a million dollars in your savings account, Had sad for you, that the cool models you made, stayed hidden away, because the risk of "losing" was greater than the Desire to Inspire.

NOW!! Go have some fun, already!!

Yes, Border Scale was one of them, 'Gong, Brizzie, ACT. I got some from Sydney too, but I have to remove the names of the folks who got the awards there.

The Sydney show is a nice little event.This was the first year that I didn't go,I believe they have moved from the R.S.L hall to a new venue to.
Went to the Brissy show a few years ago,some top builders there.
