Cold War Russian soldier question

So I’d like to find some 1/35 figures from the Czech Invasion of 1968, like in the attached pics. Can I use WW2 tank riders and just update equipment and maybe use different (non-helmet) heads?

The Soviet gymnastyorka uniform remained virtually unchanged from the end of WW2 until 1969. By 1968 the standard infantry weapon would be the AKM, a modernized version of the AK-47. Each platoon would have at least one sniper equipped with a SVD sniper rifle.

Cheers,
