AK-130 Russian Navy 130MM Automatic Naval Gun

This is going to be so cool I think. Takom has come out with the AK-130 and its big but has a low parts count. So I think this should be a fairly quick easy build :)
From Wikipedia:
"History
The design of the cannon began in June 1976 in KB Arsenal. A first single-barrel cannon designated A-217 was made, followed by the twin-barrel A-218, which was chosen due to its higher rate of fire and appeal to the admiral of the USSR Navy S. G. Gorshkov.
Innovations include the unitary cannon cartridge and the automatic loading system.
It has a high rate of fire (up to 90 RPM), at the cost of greater weight. The autoloader removed the need of a loader and allows for continuous firing until the ammo storage is emptied.
The fire control system has sight correction devices for bursts of falling shells and a target post for firing at coastal targets. Its high rate of fire, when provided with adequate types of shells, allows the cannon to serve as anti-aircraft artillery. The cartridges include charges with remote and radar detonators.
It uses the MR-184 radar, a dual-band radar. It can track and target two targets. Its range is 75 km with a tracking range of 40 km. System weight is 8 tons.
Guidance
The Lev-218 (MR-184) guidance system was developed by KB Ametist on the basis of Lev-114: (MR-114 from the AK-100). According to some reports, Lev-214 (MR-104) was used instead on Project 956 destroyers. The system includes a target tracking radar, a TV-sight, the DVU-2 laser rangefinder, a ballistic computer, equipment selection system and counter-jamming. The system is able to receive target designation from detection equipment on the ship, movement parameters, elevate the cannons and can adjust shooting bursts as well as track projectiles automatically. The DVU-2, along with the software, was developed by TsNIIAG and PO LOMO, using an autonomous indirectly stabilized laser beam in 1977.
Users
The Russian Navy uses the cannon on Projects 956, 1144, 1164 and others.
Two A-218 turrets are placed on every Project 956 destroyer, one each on the bow and the stern side before a tank and helicopter hangar was added. The traverse is limited to 100 degrees from either side, with 320 rounds stored in every turret. Project 956 and 956E destroyers, as well as their variants are equipped with this configuration.
On Slava-class cruisers, a single A-218 is installed at the front of the ship. A horizontal sector of 210 degrees is provided and 340 rounds are stored in the turret. Slava-class cruisers are equipped with the Puma modernization device for artillery guidance systems (essentially the analogue of the Podacha terrestrial complex) for centralized "aimless" aiming at targets.
Kirov-class heavy nuclear cruisers carry a turret mounted at the rear, except for the very early variants which have 2 AK-100s. The turret has a 180-degree sector. The turret is installed on all variants, except for the first Kirov. 440 rounds are stored, and a Rus-A centralized guidance system for naval artillery is installed.

Ships with AK-130

Slava-class cruiser (Project 1164)
Kirov-class battlecruiser (Project 1144)
Sovremenny-class destroyer (Project 956)
Udaloy II-class destroyer (Project 1155.1)"

Just got a large box from Takom for AMPS reviews and this one was in it...the base is about dinner plate sized isn't it James? ;)

It is. Do you have to build every review sample? I volunteered a few years ago when they said they were desperately looking for reviewers. Unfortunately everything had to be built in a short period of time I was told.
James

No we have a great group I send them out to after I decide if I want to build any first ;)

A little bit of modeling yesterday evening and a little bit today. Would have been nice to do more but could only handle 20 or so minutes both times. Luckily this is a very easy kit and with just a few pieces glued already looks very cool. Now if my freaken knee, neck and back would behave I might get more done and enjoy myself more. Oh and last one has the Russian Field kitchen. I did a wash on it. Still needs so much more work. If you watch Andies videos he does a nice build but he makes a small mistake. There are some nubs on the inner face of the gun carriage that you can either leave or replace with parts on the sprue. He thought they should just be removed as a mistake or something. I wrote him to let him know. I think they look better with the ones you have to shave off the sprue. I also broke one of the steps but manages to find the are . I'll let you guess which one I broke.

Comments or critiques most welcome.
Oh and I skipped a step. I fingured it would be easier to glue the dome on before adding all the small fragile stuff.

Quite impressive. I've never seen this gun before. That model must be as big a a dinner plate.

It is big but so far a lot of fun. No pics but I think I have most of the big stuff together. Now its just adding the multiple steps and fagile little pieces and then paint. My buddy Maus got me the paint on Saturday and is sending it up to me. Give Mission Models another try seeing as the Russian Field Kitchen worked out well.

I managed to get downstairs for a little bit today and am almost done the AK-130. I think just grab handles and steps left and then paint. This is huge and takes a lot of my desk space so it will be interesting when it comes to painting.

Quite happy, I have it all together. Also started priming. Its going to need a lot of paint. Hopefully tomorrow I can prime the half not done tonight. I am using the Mission Models light grey primer and then will use Dark Ghost Grey for the gun. I also have some mission Models hull red for the floor and the water line around the wall.Couple of confusing moments but got them sorted out.

That would be a cool piece in a what if scenario, like those Panther turrets on concrete bunker?

Didn't know it was so dang big man! (y)

It is huge. But it will only get a light weathering. All of the pictures I have found show a fairly pristine looking clean turret, except 1 which is all scuzzy and rusty. This was more of a build to get me going as my Faun project was bogging down so I wont be doing much to it.
James

I know this would be a great canvas for weathering but I wont be for a couple of reasons. Its going on the recce shelf and I am having a hard enough time getting down to the basement to model as it is due to stairs and a buggered up knee, neck, and back. So right now the big thing is to get modeling and keep up the mojo while its going. To weather and start getting into details would bog me down to where I just dont build. Thats where I got with the Faun and 2 Pz IIDs. I tried a few other kits to get going and in the end the Field Kitchen and this were fast enough to get me into it again and brave the stairs. So nope, no weathering.
