1940 USN Ford Ambulance

Using a 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery kit, I'm going to make a US Navy Ambulance. I'm using the old AMT kit and to say it needs a lot of love is an understatement. The frame, engine and interior are almost ready to to together.

She is in primer right now.

The cargo area has been sprayed Ace Hardware aluminum and is ready for the woodgrain decals for the floor.

I purchased some wood "paper" and scanned it in, reducing it to the size of the cargo area and the grain is just the right size. This is the teak.

I also got the decals and masks ready for the body.

Here is a photo from the US Navy archives. It's not a Ford but that is okay.

I also ordered replacement tires and rims from Scenes Unlimited. The kit rims are out of round. The look okay until you put them in the tire. :bang head

Scenes Unlimited wheels and tires are great!

Nice!

I have a 1/34th (not a typo) die cast Ford 5 Window Coupe which I planned to put in a scene (dirty up the windows so one doesn't see it is a toy) but a certain person (my boy) decided to play with it and lost the grill.

Regards,

Oh hey that will be cool! You don't see one of those everyday.

Oops. I just ordered a 1/25 gurney that will look the part. During the war they probably would have used canvas litters or stokes baskets.

Thank you guys.

I got some more work on it this morning. First up was scratch building the hinges for the rear door. I found a photo of a restored 1940 sedan delivery on the Mecum auto auction sight. I used the photo of the rear of the vehicle to mark where the hinges go. Using a flat micro file, I notched out the location in the body and the door. I got the angle from another photo I found

I finished up the engine contruction.

And then using this photo, I took the spotlights that were for the custom build version and made some warning lights for the sides of the body.

The rod will be cut to length after I get the parts painted.
